What is the success rate of BCS schools hiring an unproven coach as HC?

The hiring of Muschamp by Florida got me thinking about the risk of hiring an unproven head coach. LSU fans are all too familiar with the Mike Archer era, and how he was a good coach but not a good program manager. Archer was the DC at LSU under Bill Arnsparger, and took over the program after Arnsparger bolted to be AD at Florida. Archer started off great but there was a downward spiral after the 1987 season.
LSU fans can't seem to get that memory out of their head.
Bob Stoops (former Florida DC) jumps out as coordinator who successfully made the transition to HC. Mark Richt (former Florida State OC) has had a good run, although things weren't too smooth this year.
Chip Kelly was hired as head coach of Oregon without any previous head coaching experience, and seems to be doing fine.
Jimbo Fisher (former LSU and FSU OC) seems to have Florida State going in the right direction. Same with Dan Mullen (former Florida OC) at Miss State.
Those of some success stories that jump out. But what about the failures? Besides Archer, which is in the distant past, what unproven head coach hires were disasters at the college football level?

Back to Mike Dubose...not a complete disaster...he had them on the right track, winning the SEC in his third year. The 2000 season was ugly, and his off the field problems may have contributed.

Are we only naming the ones that became disasters or also those that succeeded?

How do you define success?
Successes:
Dan Mullen (still up for debate)
Bo Pelini
Mike Leach
Bob Stoops
Les Miles (Okie State)
Rich Rodriguez
Chip Kelly
Tom Osbourne is one Pre-BCS.
Mike Tomlin is a great example for the NFL.
IMO, I think it's more of a personality thing than an experience thing.
Some brilliant coaches make horrible Head men and some average coaches make brilliant head men.

DeWayne Walker (5-20, granted he's at NMSU)

Kevin Sumlin
Dan Mullen
Some iffy ones:

Greg Schiano
Mike Mangino & Mike Leach (say what you want, but they both got fired)
