re: What if we can't hire an elite OC?

That was O's sales pitch. Ask him why he thinks the OC has to be great.
But, I don't think an elite DC, well below average HC, and a good OC is a recipe for success.

Wait, are we now saying that our plan just hiring elite coordinators to make up for Os deficiency is not even necessary.
O is not an offensive coach, and we don't need an elite OC??

This just keeps getting better and better.

Agree 100 per cent, I dont care what the fan sentiment is/ People dont like paying a lot of money to not see a good entertaining football team on the field. I first year failure of about 6-6 with people not filling the Tiger Stadium and I truly believe that the Alleva and Oeaux train will come to a screeching halt. That's not what I'm pulling for however as I was all in for O till the Florida game, but that is what I will believe will happen if he comes out of the gates and fails miserably.

If LSU's offense was good enough this season to beat the bottom half of the SEC west and almost beat Auburn and Florida, why is it a stretch to believe that someone other than a superstar OC can get LSU over the top vs Bama?

What if he does hire an excellent OC and they're successful?
I'd start a thread asking that, but positive questions aren't allowed here

You agree that none of these are elite teams right? And we lost to two of them.

Prior to his hire Orgeron and his advocates clearly seemed to understand the answer to this.
Because they are really good.

If he goes 6-6 then he better be fired immediately. That would be an incredible dismantling of the program in just 1 year. That would mean that he has been actively and severely destructive. If he isn't fired immediately after something like that then I will have completely lost all faith.
But I really don't think it will come to that. Worst case scenario if O is as bad as all the detractors fear then we will be looking at that after a couple of years. I guess even worst case than that is he does just a little better than that, and we get stuck in mediocrity for years of 8-4's and occasional 9-3's with continual excuses saving his job. That is actually more of what I'm fearing and seems more realistic.

The defense is the only reason we were in those games. I think Aranda is a great DC, but we were rediculously loaded on defense this year. We will take a step back on defense next year, so our offense will need to be that much better.

I don't see why LSU couldn't attract a great OC. OC will be paid top dollar and will have free rein and great talent to work with and compete in the SEC. The offense will be entirely his. That's gotta be enticing.

If that happens, then what would the Rant bitch about?

Not sure what a certain faction of the fanbase deserves, but reality is all of the fanbase will get whatever is coming-good or bad.

This is true and why O doesn't need a superstar OC. With the athletes LSU has a competent OC that understands modern offenses would be enough to beat Bama
That's a foolproof plan. Hopefully bama doesn't think of this.

Because Bama certainly doesn't have comparable athletes and a very good coaching staff.

I think we will be able to get a top notch OC because unlike Miles, Coach O will get out of the way.
The only thing I'm worried about is not being able to sustain top coordinators for longevity.

o matter if you hate the Coach O hire or love it, I think everyone agrees that the only way Coach O succeeds is with an elite OC. How many truly elite OCs are out there and how many do we have a shot at?
I would like the pro-O folks to chime in.
The optimism behind his hire was always contingent on him hiring an elite offensive mind. But no one ever thinks about what happens when the plan doesn't not go exactly as expected.
The whole idea is silly. You shouldn't have to worry about succeeding or failing based on a coordinator. You want a high powered offense, go get an offensive HC.
In case people haven't noticed, the brightest offensive minds usually become HCs. If I had to guess the ratio of offensive to defensive HCs in college it'd probably be 70-30.

Heard that same nonsense about HC last week, and we went cheap.
