My opinion:

1. Wake Forest (makes what Clawson is doing even more impressive)
2. Vanderbilt
3. Kansas
4. Oregon State
5. Texas Tech

Others: Duke, Northwestern, Syracuse, Washington State.

In no order:

Kansas
Vanderbilt
Washington State
Duke
Syracuse

Disagree with Northwestern and Texas Tech. I think both of those can be decent jobs

In terms of what? Ability to win? Vandy is one of the best if you are looking at it from a job and quality of life POV. I know this is a LSU echo chamber, but coaches look at this as a job for the most part.

Ability to win. Fans don't give a shite about the quality of life for a coach.

So Vanderbilt is a better job than Oklahoma, because Nashville is a cool place to live?

I think Northwestern can be a pretty decent job for the right coach. It's the Midwest's version of Stanford - a school with prestigious academics in a large metro area. There are enough young men within a few hours of Chicago who are decent football players and can meet the academic requirements. Lord knows it isn't a pressure cooker environment. If you can be competitive and sneak into a halfway decent bowl game every couple of years, you can hang on to the job.

Vandy
Kansas
Duke
Oregon St.
Wake

Next 5.
Rutgers
Iowa St. - Just because Campbell is there doesn't mean it's a good job.
Boston College
Syracuse
NW/Purdue/Indiana

Unless you've got a kid on the team whose dad killed 5 hookers.

You guys keep putting Wake on there but it is not in that same class neither is Wazzu Both of those have been shown to win conferences and draw fans.

KU
Cal
Oregon St
Vandy
Miami

Those are the worst jobs

None of those have support from fans or administration. They all have money but it is directed towards other sports or facilities

Most coaches just want to win. They don't care as much about the city itself. I'm sure some do but I don't think that's a major factor.

I think Charlottesville, VA or Fayetteville, AR are both much nicer places to live than Tuscaloosa or Baton Rouge but they aren't better FB jobs by a long shot. You can't win at Vandy in football.

Fans aren’t as important as some think

NFL is

Why I would remove Cal?

Not just fluke players. Since 2011 almost 30 NFL draft picks including a lot of first rounders.
There are some issues there but not enough to where you can’t win consistently. Even cut some corners for Jeff Tedford. Not like they are totally foreign.

I'm sure the coach who spends 16 hours a day at the facility gives a shite about the bustling microbrew scene.

Coaches who stay coaches turn any negative into a positive. Coaches who can’t are based on their ability to develop. You can have a few dead recruiters if you surround them by good ones. Let the recruit know he might not have a personality but he can get you into the NFL
How life is as a recruiter
Everyone gets recruited negatively. Even Alabama and Saban.

I’m assuming you are talking football only because it’s one of the best places to coach in baseball

You have to remember these guys posting in here have Baton Rouge as their baseline for a college town. They will have all kinds of excuses when Dave Arnada turns them down just like their coordinator searches last year.
