That was on the radio this morning. Hadn't tnought of him. An interesting idea. Did he win a NC at Miami or did he leave a year early?

Kirk Herbstreit reports the Alabama football coach will sign a deal to stay with the Tide for multiple seasons. (Update: Alabama's announced the deal. No official terms yet, but the Tuscaloosa News' Cecil Hurt reports it's at least $7 million a year -- that's a raise of about $1.5 million a year and more than all but a few NFL coaches make.)

He's awful. That would not even be worth letting mack go. It looks like Texas waited too long to get mack out. All of the names they wanted are picking up extensions.

Thats why their big donors were furious.

I'd love that hire, but Texas would never "lower themselves" to hire someone like him.

If UT wants to sell their sole to the devil for a good team with guaranteed probation to follow, all the more power to them.

As a last resort?
As literally the last name on the list before Major Applewhite?

No he's not. Butch Davis is one of the best talent evaluators/developers in the country. He always has NCAA issues but he is a great coach.

Butch Davis will bring the NCAA in to sniff around, unless Texas has learned the art of pay off like Bama.

UT fans like to believe they are clean as far as recruiting is concerned/lack of under the table benefits, unlike the "dirty SEC". They'd never go for Davis.

Davis didn't have NCAA issues at Miami did he? I remember the one's at Carolina only implicated John Blake.

What still amazes me about the UNC scandal is the smorgasbord of NCAA violations that they accumulated neither directly named the head coach (football or basketball) as responsible nor hit NC with the charge of lack of institutional control.
They made a phony department with phony classes to get their basketball and football players through. It was as flagrant of a fraud as you can demonstrate. Were they not guilty of loss of institutional control because they were supremely in control of their academic fraud?

That is the way I remember it as well, but like it or not, Davis was not implicated.
I don't think Texas would be too proud to go for him. I think they would go for Tressell if they thought he would win there.

I honestly think they make a run at Bill O'Brien

He was cleared of the NCAA stuff at North Carolina, but that didn't eliminate the stigma.
He won't sniff a big time gig again. Heck, he badly wanted our job and we wouldn't give him the time of day, and he had Tyson in his back pocket.
