We haven’t discussed how Woodward might fail.

I trust Woodward because the smart people who are huge donors trust Woodward. Regardless of how great he is, there is always the possibility this gets strung out and LSU loses out on say, a Dave Aranda or someone else.

USC ends up locking up Dave and his team makes the playoffs within 3 years, while LSU is still the little brother of Alabama. Just something to think about if this goes past mid December without a new LSU head coach.

You kind of fail to mention who we hired in this scenario

Aranda isnt the end all be all

I fear the huge LSU donors. I fear their intelligence or lack of it.

If this gets to mid December then there will be plenty of other openings, there always are. As Chicken once indicated timing is everything.

So we overpay for a big name that is a mediocre coach and one of the up-and-comers is the next Saban?

It is certainly within the realm of possibility. Just remember that most up-and-comers end up being flavors of the month and there is no next Saban.

This is my biggest fear! Hoping is not a plan.

Failure would be hiring Napier.

The perception would be that we couldn’t get a top flight coach. It also reinforces the Saban obsession narrative.

LSU should not have to settle on anyone less talented than Aranda!

IF Napier is the floor, then SW will still have made a great hire imo. Not my first choice but if that’s who it is at the end of all of this, LSU will still be in good hands.

I couldn’t care less about perception or any perceived Saban obsession. And neither does Scott Woodward.

The goal isn’t to win the press conference. The goal is to hire a coach that fans will still be excited about in 5 years. Woodward sure as hell knows better who that is than any of the self-appointed experts who post on this board as if their takes are fact.

Woody let it be known to TAF members that he was swinging for the fences and was willing to be patient on the whale. That's not perception baw, that's reality!

Woodward is human. He hired Jimbo Fisher at Texas Agricultural & Mechanical. Jimbo Fisher is an OVERPAID above average coach, not a great coach. In the end, that hire very well could be considered a failure.

I bet you’re a lot of fun at parties!

Maybe you should go to Help Board and request a name change to Debbie Downer!
