Riley & Kelly have the same agency, one smokescreen camouflaged both hires. Im sure Scott wasnt a huge fan of that tactic but he knew atleast he had his guy.

If this was a "desperation hire" (it was not)...
then it's an even bigger notch on Woodward's belt.
Who pulls it that kind of legend on a whim because
you missed on your first target?

Per CBK he signed his contract on the plane on the way here...

Yea, such desperation. Thank God he said yes or we would've had no coach at all. Woodward, just like Alleva, didn't have a back-up plan at all.

You gotta be wary of coach speak. He also said he didn’t talk to LSU til the other day when numerous sources say he turned the job down a month or two ago the first time it was offered to him. Of course he didn’t talk to LSU his agent did. on the athletic there is An article saying he requested a meeting w the school president and AD a couple weeks ago after Tucker got that huge deal, and the meeting wasn’t granted. That imo was the tipping point for him to leave. the money that we offered plus ND being slow to give him an increase.

You don’t get a guy to quit the most storied program in NCAA history AND that team still having a shot to make the playoffs in desperate weekend.

This hire was in the works for a long time.

The announcement was delayed because of the playoff possibility.

USC wanted BK.

BK and Riley have the same agent. The Riley to LSU and lack of denial by Riley was a smoke screen to get USC to sharpen their pencil.

Lincoln Riley was the smoke screen for Brian Kelly. I don’t know for a fact, but I doubt that Lincoln was ever the main target. He’s scared of the SEC!

The coach at USC got the better deal than the LSU Coach so it is safe to say USC was first in the pecking order. And there is nothing wrong with that.

He takes the job that gives him 24/7 jet access living in Southern California doesn’t mean he is scared of anything. He took the better job.

Woodward and the LSU plane were in South Bend Oct 24th (a Sunday) so he was either visiting Coach Kelly, your Mom or your sister. Which one was it? If anyone thinks Woodward was not working with 2 or 3 coaches/agents at the same time, you are crazy.

Doubt we will ever know, but I do not think Riley was someone that SW seriously considered
