I don’t buy for one minute that he actually directly met with them. He probably dragged his arse for a day or two while his agents made some inquiries but Beamer himself didn’t do anything directly with them.
But it’s still a problem. 3 of our last HCs have had more of a connection with other programs and just felt like tourists here. Lou was synonymous with ND, Spurrier with Florida and now Beamer with VT. Hell Muschamp was a Dog who had coached at LSU, Auburn and Florida. He had no connection to us or the state.
Chadwell made his name in this state. He’s lead three different programs in SC to their most successful seasons ever. He’s the best program builder in the southeast and he is the best HC in the Carolinas PERIOD.
Like I said, let Beamer go to VT. Someone get in the right person’s ear. I won’t be mad about it, it would be great for us. You know how Belicheck skipped out on the Jets job and went to the Patriots and built a dynasty and the Jets have just cycled through dookie after dookie in their HC role? Yeah Beamer is the Belicheck to our Jets, except we’d be turning the franchise over to our own Mahomes in Chadwell.

Bud Foster's defense was the pathetic side of the ball in four of their five losses the year Kill was there
Same story in 2018, Foster's defense is what killed VT.
Sounds to me like Jerry Kill should stop running his fat mouth since it's getting out to message boarders of his unprofessional opinions of a staff who brought him on at VT after Kill himself stunk up the entire eastern seaboard with his own offense at Rutgers in 2017 - LINK
He's had a long career and then he lets loose trashing a young coach because he's an angry old coot? Jerry Kill should be ashamed.

Fuente cannot recruit....and he kicked out people on the team mainly defense that would not even get high school detention that hurt a lot. Also, the big drop off in defense well, when we lost 2 1st rounders, Tim Settle, etc
Also, he brought along folks from Memphis for his defense that would not make it in the Fun Belt. Example one, he came in and lowered the salary for Torian Gray....great great DB coach...so Torian leaves for the Redskins and now with the Gators. Great coaches want he best people not their friends.
As for the Kill story at VT, he did not leak it. People are pissed at Fuente because generally the donors like him, but he is loyal to a fault. Similar to Beamer in his early years.

Don’t forget he thought he had the Baylor job then crawled back to vt after he basically quit the job.

He also did that with PJ Fleck a year or so ago. I get that Fleck isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I thought it came off as sour grapes and a get off my lawn comment/old man yelling comment. Very unneccessary.

VT finished like 70th last year despite a top ten state in terms of HS talent
This year they are on target for a 45-50 class with like 5 two stars on it

Harry..it is/can be multiple issues...
The OC has been terrible at in game adjustments...running the QB all the time...hey its 3rd and 3, lets run a designated QB draw....hey its 3rd and 14...lets run a qb sweep...hey its 1st and 10, lets run a QB sweep...
It is obvious the brains behind the offense at Memphis was Dickey and not Cornelson when it came to play calls..
Fuente was hired because he and his staff were supposed offensive geniuses...well, running it up on the little sisters of poor is easy (well, it used to be until the likes of ODU, Liberty, etc started beating us)...but when it comes to real defensive teams, we are always stuffed. You going to out jet sweep Clemson? You going to attack direct on a Narduzzi defense...etc..
5 years later and what is the VT offensive identity? There is none. QB draw? 2 yard jet sweep?
As I said, it is bittersweet, as I truly thought Fuente would do well. And I think he can still do well at the right place, but not in Va.
As for the next coach, they are inheriting a mess. One flaw I did not bring up earlier was the roster mgt by Fuente...you want a WR, we got about 20 of them...some forced to play defense...
I wish Fuente well in his next stop, but if he is going to be successful, he has to cut his ties....out of the current coaching staff Fuente should keep Vice (OL), Shibest (but not as his salary), Teerlink and maybe Smith...the rest see you later.
Who is Va Tech going to get, no clue, but whomever it is should spend their first couple days reestablishing relationships in the commonwealth. Because not getting consistent top 20 players is a failure for the state.
I am hoping we go the asst coach at a P5 route, but Whit has always hired coaches with HC experience.
Fickell - cannot see him in Blacksburg...I think he is good, but not sure his Midwest background work in the 757 and 804.
Huff - went to Hampton, can he get the Coordinators to make it work?
Elliott - unlike Huff, has really been mainly at Clemson...can he adjust?
Healy - rah rah...but hard to sell a losing record at Charlotte to the fan base
Napier - for giggles put him on here, but he is not getting 4 or 5 million from VT...
Mike Houston - Whit's JMU ties probably has him on the radar...but again ECU struggles even though I think he will turn it around
Gus Bus - if Auburn let him go would someone of his caliber even want to come to Blacksburg...our facilities are laughable compared to the SEC...but he would have us winning 9 to 10 consistently in the ACC
Clawson - would be a good coach and stabilize Vt, but could he get us back to conference championships? And not sure the fan base would be excited...
Two wild cards I have heard rumors on, Bill Clark (no chance that can be real) and Hafley the BC coach who I think would actually be a great fit for VT.
But no matter, it is going to be a rough few years in Blacksburg

Its not so much Fuente sucking but Beamer being that great. VT's main recruiting areas are DC and Tidewater. Look up Blacksburg on a map. UNC is a lot closer to Tidewater and about the same distance from DC. WVU, Pedo State and Rutgers are a lot closer to DC. There's no reason VT should be a football powerhouse but Beamer made them one.

Even more sad for VT is OU, yes Oklahoma which is a two day drive away from DC is doing a better job recruiting the DMV than VT

VT clearly is not interested in fielding a decent team anytime soon. Their insiders are saying Elliott as HC and he will bring in Chad Morris as OC.
