Very few assistants coming with Kelly?

It seems most of the coaching staff is going to be staying at ND. Is that more credit to their love for Freeman or due to their distaste in Kelly? It has me a bit concerned that his guys don't want to follow him, especially for pay increases.

Well since Freeman is getting promoted to HC I wouldn't think much of it. Rees is also a ND alum.

His DC was elevated to HC, what was he supposed to do?

His OC is a 29 year old former ND QB whose father works for ND.

Neither of these is a shock, especially with Freeman staying on

Freeman wants the head coach spot and I feel like they gave him that to keep him there which is probably a mistake. It’s the alma mater thing for Rees, so it’s not like it’s mind blowing that they wouldn’t stay for that opportunity. Rees probably wants to show he can run an offense without Kelly. Guess we’ll find out if they can pull it off.

I mean, Rees played for him then came back to coach under him. Elston has followed him since CMU, so have some other coaches. One of the Geaux247 guys mentioned on the podcast that they had a former ND assistant who was a source that talked up his character. I don’t think guys staying at ND in the midst of a potential playoff berth is a big issue. Some of them might still be coming.

The offers to his former staff were a formality and friendly gesture. CBK has SEC funding to load up now with a clear conscience.

Not to mention that you are uprooting family and moving 1000s of miles away. If you like where you live and are already making a considerable salary, why move?

It tells you they don’t like Kelly enough to follow him…Even if it means more money and a chance to move up the coaching ranks quicker by being in the toughest conference.

moving up the coaching ranks like being named the HC of the team? You fricking moron

We know about a DC that is now apparently the HC and an OC that is an ND alum and who’s dad works for ND.

Kelly has had a lot of turnover, but mostly due to guys getting raises and promotions elsewhere. Because of that, most of these guys haven’t been with him that long. It would be one thing if a staff he had together for a decade snubbed him. That’s not what’s happening here.

Also, think about this- most assistants don’t have a guaranteed opportunity to stay where they are when their head coach moves on. It’s either go with or go somewhere else. However, when someone on staff gets promoted, they may have that chance. Maybe they like where they are at what we all know is a great program. I can’t blame them if they want to stay there.

Pre-Rantards (TD didn’t exist back then) catastrophe syndromed about Saban’s assistants not coming with him from Michigan State as well.

When Saban came to LSU, nobody came with him. He proceeded to develop a great staff of assistants, and he continually replenishes. I think Coach will make good choices.

Obviously CBK sucks if he can’t get his DC of one year to turn down the HC job at Notre Dame to take the DC job at LSU. Maybe we shouldn’t have hired Kelly.

Only on Tigerdroppings do we get such ridiculousness.

Good one. If you read the post, I asked if they were staying because of their affinity for Freeman. He clearly was not the target of this post. You are an idiot.
