NOLA dot com Article from June 2016

LSU Barely edged out Bama last year in total staff monies spent excluding HC's.
quote:

This upcoming season comparing the salaries of the nine full-time assistants on each staff, LSU will outspend Alabama $5,415,000 to $4,611,333.

If you include the salaries of each school's strength coach, LSU still holds a slight edge $5,730,000 to $5,136,333.

Only when add the salaries of head coaches Les Miles of LSU and Nick Saban of Alabama does Alabama jump ahead of the Tigers in salary spending $12,036,33 to $10,030,000.

So if LSU goes to a nearly 7 million dollar per year coach and promises him the world in staffing monies to spend and supposed rumors of Aranda maybe getting upwards of 2 million a year, that's a shite ton of fricking money spent. I'm not one that's worried about the money spent but damn, there's going to be some legitimate expectations of the program if we're spending just as much as Bama or more in total.

This doesn't count the army of analysts and "shadow staff" that Bama is paying. The gap is probably a few million larger

LSU was paying Cameron an absurd amount to be OC. With Jimbo, you don't need a top tier OC since he will be the de facto OC.

Saban's team is the same way. The fact that he is a great DC in any shape or form helps him cut costs in other areas.

Miles was in no way good at any aspect and had to be propped up entirely by assistant coaches.

Bama gets the edge when it comes to ancillary staff though. They have a guy like Sarkesian on the payroll is a support role. This is from an article earlier this year:

quote:

Within the most grandiose support staff in the country, Saban employs three former head coaches, a former NFL executive, a Yale-educated attorney and the son of Charlie Weis. There are the typical support staffers just starting their career and looking to work their way up the ladder, but the really interesting stories are the ones like Sarkisian and former New Mexico head coach Mike Locksley.

yeah, i'm not too informed as to what this means and what LSU provides. LSU is damn sure trying its best to play with the big boys. You can't say financials is what's held the program back past few years.

I'm fine with paying that amount you have too now. But it's about time we start seeing a better return for that investment. Miles took that money and did not grow it at all. I'd be pissed too if I was his boss and investors.(BOS)

If we're not trying to win, then why even field a team?

We are paying Sark $35,000 as an offensive analyst for the entire season.

Mike Locksley is being paid $45,000.

Right. Bama has guys like that on the payroll for that kind of money. It's crazy.

My point was that we aren't paying them a ton of money to put our staff salaries "millions more" than LSU like that other dude implied.

The shadow staff is in fact where everyone needs to play catch up.

Nope. Your just paying them a nominal salary for what you are calling "support staff" positions because they are still getting paid millions by their previous employers.

We're talking about a school that had Cam Cameron as the highest paid assistant in the country for 3 years.

Money is apparently not much of an issue.

Yeah and I have a bridge to sell you over the East River and some ocean front property in the Phoenix area if you think that those figures are anywhere near to what they are actually getting in consultant fees via Paul, Jr.

Yeah Sark is gonna pick up everything, move from the West Coast , go to Alabama and the shitehole of a town that Tuscaloosa is for a mere 35K a year? C'mon TideSaint, most of us live in the real world....well, most of the time, at least

shadow staff=not day to day coaches, but consultants that work on things behind the scenes. Sarkesian as a offensive consutlant, or Trent Richardson playing on the scout team in order to emulate Leonard Fournette.

Most under performing OC ever.

Another reason I'm so glad Les is gone.
