And as far as Steve knowing his shite goes...well he should, he’s been in the game a while. But the fact is he’s had runs as OC that have been less than impressive and there’s a reason he’s been coaching TEs for a while here. He’s a good coach but he’s not a sought after offensive mind.

Nobody is even mentioning one of the biggest negatives of all...

If you’re about to give the OC job to a guy that doesn’t even want to do it, how much do you really think his heart will be in it?

I disagree because:

This is a loser's mentality. I disagree that status quo is not bad.

This was also our weakest conference schedule since probably 2008.

What should really be pissing us off is that not only is this the weakest the conference has been, but all those weak SEC teams are now upgrading. Not to mention that bama is having the weakest team they've had in a decade, and they're STILL playing for a Natty. While we sit here and wonder what assistant will promoted to OC.

The best spin on hiring Steve and pairing him with O would be that, well we admit we can't possibly win championships but we can at least try to stay in the 7 to 9 wins a year range. That should let O play out his contract. We'll conserve cash until Saban's gone and maybe (maybe) staff up again with Aranda as HC in 2021 or 2022. Hopefully, Aranda has fully bought in and sticks around to see if the Aranda HC experiment works. (**This is not directed to you, BilJ)

So, is that the story now? I'm trying to figure out how everyone should properly manage their expectations.

Also, please let me know if there are any openings as an AD or some back-room fat cat position. This sounds like a pretty sweet job with low expectations.

Maybe it's some sort of brilliant ploy to get us all to reduce our expectations. So if we end up with someone who isn't a known Rockstar, we'll still be happy and pat Joe and Ed on the back because... Well they didn't hire Steve. I can hope can't I?

I never said they were bad coaches. Let's not create straw man arguments. My point is that Orgeron was hired based upon the promise to hire "the very best coordinators." Aranda meets that description; Steve E. doesn't. Do you disagree?

I say let O pick his staff. If it's successful then great and if he whiff's on it like his choice to hire Canada then fire him.

If the administration and fans don't trust him to make his own hire then what does that say about him as the head coach.... Championship caliber head coaches don't need the administration telling them which coordinators to hire in order to be successful. So either he is a championship caliber head coach or he isn't, and if he isn't then he needs to be replaced. Either way

Can’t disagree with that...

An offensive staff of...
Steve OC/Qb
Joseph TE/water
Gregg OL
Old man River WRs

That’s not only far from elite, it’s about as meh as an offensive staff we’ve had in a while. Throw in McMahon and then we can talk about how bad of a recruiting staff it is because then that’s as weak as it’s been since the Gerry days

Well...

O is not we basically admitted that when we gave him a subpar salary so we could spend on coordinators.

I'll go even further than that. I'll say that Steve could be a really good OC for an elite-offensive minded coach, running that guy's offense. The fact that people find this so unacceptable is because of the guy at the top. If Herman or Fisher were HC, no one would be melting that Steve was being named OC.

Of course, I don't need to say any of that. Every decision-maker about to pull the trigger on this deal knows that.

Say no to O on this one.

That is the worst offensive staff in years. Just awful. The only way the powers that be can okay this is if they’ve had it w O and want him to fail.

I agree, SE was given the offense when Miles was fired and Cam. He took Cams book and opened even further and put in his offense in it and look what he did. His avg of offense was better than Cam’s and better than Canada’s. So just because he isn’t the sexy up and coming the masses want to shoot it down. I’ll take SE if it happens but and I mean But if it doesn’t work out, Off with ones head from AD on down. Everybody!
