The disdain for Paul Chryst got me thinking about some of the up and coming coaches who quickly fell out of flavor. It seems, more often than not, that the craze is often not warranted. What other coaches were you big on until things fell apart?

Not to say he didn't pan out, but Kirk Ferentz was a very hot name for every opening a few years ago and that has completely cooled off. I haven't heard him mentioned for a job in a few years.

I'm curious to see if Chris Peterson will do well at Washington. He had a decent record this season, but didn't beat anyone noteworthy.

Hawkins and Koetter were the best of the Boise coaches that went to the most dysfunctional places.

Nobody had a shot at KU after that mess. Roy Williams single handedly ruined any shot of them being a success for the near future.

Bill Self seems to play nicer with the football team than Williams did.

Ferentz is a good one. He makes a ton at Iowa which is why he probably has no interest in leaving anytime soon.

This thread is a spinoff from the name Miles' replacement thread. I chuckle at some of the flavor of the month coaches and shake my head at the delusion some people suffer when they think a guy like Patterson would come to LSU.

Rich Ros is a big name, but he was widely panned after the clusterfrick in Michigan. Muschamp is another one and Mullen would have fit the bill circa 2013. Dirk Koetter is another Boise guy that was a bust.
