It'd be a good hire. He's done all there is to do at the level he's currently at.

A Sun Belt school is the right next move for him.

Would be a solid pick. Gramblin’ was left for dead when he got there and now they own the SWAC

Canada has put his name in for the job. So far he is the most decorated coach besides Penn St DC.

He has done a great job at Grambling. Leaving Grambling for the ULL job would be a lateral move and nothing more. I think he can get a better job if he waits.

He is a great coach. A few years ago Grambling was an absolute dumpster fire. Nope they are absolutely owning the Swac. Granted part of it has to do with their qb who transferred from Ole Miss, but still.

Do good coaches from smaller schools, especially HBCUs typically even try to move up. It seems like many really enjoy the culture of a smaller institution so they tend to stay on that level.

I dislike ULL as much as the next guy, but to say a SunBelt job is lateral with a SWAC job is beyond ignorant.

Power 5 schools don't just go around scooping up SWAC coaches to fill their needs. If this guy wants to one day make it to the big time, then he will take any job in the FBS that comes his way. I would even argue that the SWAC is so bad, the next logical step up would just be a better FCS school. Some coaches on that level are happy to stay where they are and do their thing and they never move up.

Jay Hopson went from Alcorn State to Southern Miss. He's one of the few I can think of.

Actually I think the Cajuns should hire Kendal Briles for the 3 year rental.

What is dumb is ULL firing the only coach who has led them to multiple bowl games. ULL hired a minority coach in Jerry Baldwin and basically used the man for recruiting purposes only. Secondly, everything Baldwin asked the university to do they were unwillingly to support. Bustle came in and asked for the same things Baldwin ask for and they gave it to him. Compare Baldwin and Ricky Bustle record after three years and you will see they are identical, yet Baldwin was terminated for his dismal record while Bustle got a contract extension. I truly believe that Fobbs can land a better job than the ULL head coaching job. Tulane is a better job, La. Tech and he could go back to McNeese one day as a head coach. Anyone who replied to my post with a negative comment have no clue about the ULL program. I am an alumni of ULL and want to see them do well but I don't think Fobbs will get a fair chance there. Why not Skip Holtz as a potential head coach, Matt Canada would be a good hire. Why not John Chavis (LSU former DC). Hugh Freeze has coached in the sun belt before, why not him? Les Miles is available. ULL fired their coach without giving enough time to rebuild. He deserved that chance. Keep your ignorant and non informative comments to yourself and post less.

Where to begin......

First of all, Baldwin was a political hire because Coach Blanco wanted some points from the minority vote since his wife was running for Governor. We also had Authement as President who was so cheap with athletics that he didn't even allow his coaches to buy carpet in the athletic complex because he claimed it was too expensive. He was also notorious for taking athletic donations and secretly moving them to academic causes. This caused a major decrease in athletic donations. It's a miracle that Nelson Stokley had the success that he had during his 12 year stint as the head coach with the lack of resources that they had. Secondly, Baldwin openly stated to the media that "it was not my job to put fans in the stands." Um, what??? So yeah, he burned his bridge with the fan base early on. AND he had a 6-27 record with a 2-3 record against FCS opponents. That's grounds for termination.

Bustle comes in and starts marketing the program in a way that it gets fans back on board. He starts promoting his team and in four years, wins a share of the conference title and comes up one game short of a bowl berth. But a 9 year stint won't last if your ceiling is only 6 wins.

Hudspeth showed us what consistent winning looks like. But this is where you lost me. Have you looked at the past three seasons after our 2011-14 bowl run? We just experienced our third straight losing season AFTER he got a raise to a $1 million salary. Take a look around the G5 and tell me who makes that kind of money and is able to retain his job after three straight losing seasons. Answer? NONE. Not to mention, we were also put on probation for recruiting violations at that time under his watch.

Hud had time to rebuild because he did rebuild. But he was a victim of his own success. When you get a pay raise to a $1 million salary, a brand new athletic performance center whose quality can compete with many P5 schools, and an increased athletic budget; you maintain the success at a minimum. You don't decline into three straight losing seasons and finish 5th in the worst conference in FBS.

As far as the coaching choices, I like Fobbs. I think he is a great coach. But to say that we are on the same level as Grambling is straight up absurd. The SWAC is something like 0-50 against Sun Belt schools. So no, it's nowhere close to being on the same level. Our budget literally is 5x of what they or any other FCS school in the state has. Period. For a G5 program, we have a good bit of resources that is better than a 5-7 record and a 5th place in the Sun Belt. And this where we can agree. I would not be surprised if we bring in a well known name, preferably a coordinator. Hugh Freeze is out of the question. Our probation stems from him at Ole Miss. But again, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a name that can get the fans excited. The potential for this program is definitely there. For the first time ever, we now have the right leadership in place with our President and AD to get the job done.

I usually don't respond to obvious trolls, but just in case anyone thinks you actually have useful trustworthy info.

Baldwin won 6 games in 3 years with 3 being his high mark. Bustle won 11 games in his first 3 years with 3 games being his low water mark.

identical
