A, Gill gets hired and is given 3 years, doesn't have it turned around, and loses to Bama all 3 years in recruiting and games... Fired and not given another shot for a long time.
Why can't he go to AU and win right away?

does anyone think that gill is being overhyped because of the color of his skin?
It's sad that this is even a question.

if a white coach had one good season at buffalo, would there be an outcry for him to get a SEC head coaching job?
Your right, no one makes a big deal about Bobby Johnson at Vandy, Paul Johnson at Navy, Dan Hawkins at Boise State, Steve Spurrier at Duke, Dennis Erickson at Washington State and Idaho, Urban Meyer at Bowling Green and Randy Edsall at UCONN are just a few people that no one talks about for doing a great job at a perinial loser.
I think the quesion might be why do you care so much about the color of his skin? Do you think he's a good coach or not is the only question that I would care about as a fan.

How many kids really know who TG is?
Probably more than know who Gene Chizik is.
quote:
OOOOOR your saying he'd just get all these 4 and 5 stars to come check out Auburn... BECAUSE HE'S BLACK. That's a racist mindset.
Never said that. Good try though.

PS. LEt's just say Ball State doesn't play it's worst game in a full calender year in the MACCG, TG's record would be 7-5. In the MAC? How is that a great record?
What's awesome is you can't say Buffalo lost because, you know, they didn't. They won. And with it came the conference championship. But of course it's Ball State's fault for playing a terrible game and not Buffalo's for playing a good one.

I love Rant logic. You can't theorize what would hve happened if Les hadn't gotten lucky in 07, but you can theorize what would have happened if Ball St. had played differently.

bgtiger, edsell has turned down jobs to stay at UConn, he likes it there.

It's comparable to someone going to Stanford this year and winning the PAC 10 in three years or someone going to Vandy and winning the SEC in three years.
HE went 7-5. Hire Bobby Johnson then.
Where are the USC,LSU,UF, and Bama equivalent teams in the MAC? The MAC right now isn't even the MAC of 8 years ago. I don't think Buffalo has the same tough academic requirements to get into school as do Stanford and Vandy. Sorry but imo ,that takes a ittle shine off of what you described as soe sort of miracle. NEBRASKA didn't hire the man. He was their guy, before Bo Pellini.

There was never this much outcry in the media for someone, or anyone to hire the man. Anyway, did Edsall have an offer in hand from a school like Auburn that he turned down? IDK?

why not such an outcry for someone like Randy Edsall,
He was in contention for Syracuse and the Washington job.
Three years ago Chris Mortenson named him as a coach to watch for NFL coaching jobs.
quote:
Randy Edsall, Connecticut -- Don't blink. Edsall has enjoyed plenty of success as a former assistant under Tom Coughlin at the collegiate and pro level. And when you see what he has done at UConn in a relatively short ascension from Division I-AA to Division I, he's a pretty good sleeper candidate.
He's turned down a few job interviews because he likes it at UCONN. He just got a big contract extension and raise, and he's already at a BCS school in a relativley weak confrence. Why leave?

Bo was just as much their guy.
Plus at the time Gil's resume was worse and Bo was one of the hottest Ast. coaches in the nation.
On the other hand Chizik is on a 10 game losing streak and Gil is as conference champion.

I haven't mentioned Chizic. I'm really trying to understand the greatness that is TG.

The only true distribution of coaches should be all black!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are a fricking idiot.
It has nothing to do with race. He is a great coach. If you cant see that then you are the racist one.

I don't think you understood.
You made out as if Nebraska passed up their guy to go get some random dude. They didn't, Bo was a Nebraska guy also.
You make it out as if Bo's resume wasn't better than Bo's at the time of the hiring. It was.
Since them TG has improved his resume. While he still gets no respect when compared to a guy on a 10 game losing streak.

No , you were the one who says that kids would automatically take an offer from a TG led Auburn over schools like USC and the like. In my view, you look at this thing from a racial standpoint. I was calling you guys out for that because I can't understand how you could think that unless you believe that kids would line up to play for him because he is a black man. Because of a few news cycles with his name plastered all over it? Seriously, you think big time high school football players know enough about Turner Gill to spurn USC, Bama, LSU and the rest?
Don't tell me anything about waiting a few years for that to happen, because TG would have to win pretty big in that meantime to build his reputatation up to compete with those schools.

No, I said they hired a guy who coached there for 2-3 years as an assistant over the guy who was a star qb at Nebraska for four years, coached at NU, and has been a head coach. Why not bash Nebraska, too?

I respect Turner Gill. I also know that most of the people on this board didn't know who the heck he was a year ago. What I don't know is why AUburn had to hire him? That's why I haven't said anything about Chizic. It's not like most people are debating about all the other coaches should have hired. Just a bunch of TG talk.
