Coming off its most successful two-year run in modern history, the Tulane football team appears perfectly poised to keep winning.
Less than a week after Willie Fritz left for Houston, the Green Wave hired Jon Sumrall to replace him as its head coach, the school announced Friday. The former Troy coach is signing a reported six-year contract.

Seems like a good hire for them

Better hire than A&M imo

Great hire for Tulane!

Probably recommended by the guy Preston interviewed.

Question: why is Tulane keeping Slade Nagle, Shiel Wood etc. on the bowl game coaching staff when they are clearly raiding our players to induce them to transfer to Houston???

People are going nuts on twitter about that.
They are getting players to transfer to Houston while coaching for Tulane.
They are in a weird spot I guess but get them out of the building imo

I agree, who cares about the Military Bowl...cut losses and move on.

Bet Sumrall raids Troy for some players.

Sumrall said today he is not contacting any of his Troy assistants while they still have a bowl game to play.
While that’s likely not true, he did say it.

Agreed. They are going to tamper anyway, but why are any of these guys allowed in the building?
frick the Military Bowl I would rather still have a football team

I know nothing about Tulane except it's private and it's in NOLA. So why is it a much better coaching gig than TRoy? If the money was equal would he still be at Troy?

Tulane is in a better conference with a (very) outside chance to move into an even better conference.
Nice oncampus stadium, they have a decent amount of money to throw around, a long tradition and name...and they are a much much much better school than Troy for people that care about that sort of thing.
They have had a long losing tradition since leaving the SEC, but you also have a chance to make a NY6 bowl or even the 12 team playoff at Tulane, whereas at Troy the chances are MUCH smaller.
Its a step up. But its still a stepping stone school.
If Sumrall does well over the next 2-3 years, he will be an SEC coach.

He definitely won the press conference

I heard some clips and he was impressive.
Hopefully he wins on the field

It went down like this:
Sumrall threw out a number that he didn't think Tulane would say yes to. They said yes. He went to Troy and Troy only offered 300k more than his current salary. It was a no brainer to take nearly 3.5 times his current salary.
No hard feelings from most of the Troy fanbase. We appreciate the back 2 back SunBelt titles we earned under Coach Sumrall. I wish him all the best unless we meet on the field.

Tulane threw an impressive amount of money at him. Hard to turn that down
Even the small chance the SEC doesn’t come calling in a couple years and he doesn’t bolt, dude is set up pretty well
