what team has ever won without great players?
Are JJ & Ridley on the same level as McFadden & Newton?
Do you feel Gus Malzahn could have pulled an 11-2 record with LSU's team?

Right now Patterson is the only guy that I would be really excited to get. Malzahn would be interesting, as it could be amazing or a disaster. Pelini would be "meh" and Tubbs would suck all the excitement right out of the program.

Or just a cam newton to bail them out of every 3rd and short.
Much like Urban and Tim Tebow.
Urban wasn't so great without his freak QB
The guy was instrumental in turning AU around...there offense was 16th in the nation his first year there (and who was there QB? Thats right Chris freaking Todd)

Rouge is right. Saban was a great hire but alot of fans didn't know that much about him.

You don't think the offense would have been MUCH better with Gus running it?

Seriously? His scheme thrives on the 'options' the qb can go with the ball. Our skill players in the system becomes the fastest show on earth. All the long runs Mcalleb(sp) breaks? Imagine Shep doing that...

I think people are a little too quick to crown this guy
I agree. Having Cam Newton helped make him look good. Give him time to prove himself year in and year out.

I wanna hear more about this "Lance something" guy who has a track record of being right and thinks the Patterson thing has legs.

Year in and year out? Let's check out the facts:
Malzahn got his start as the defensive coordinator at Hughes High School in 1991. He became head coach in 1992 and in 1994 Hughes reached the state championship game with an upset of Pine Bluff Dollarway. Hughes fell just short in the title game, losing to Lonoke on an interception in the final minute.
From 1996-2000, he transformed Shiloh Christian into one of the most dynamic offensive prep squads in the nation. In 1998, Shiloh Christian set a national record with 66 passing touchdowns for the season, while quarterback Josh Floyd nearly set an individual national record with 5,878 total yards (5,221 passing, 657 rushing).[2] Malzahn guided the Saints to back-to-back state championships in 1998 and 1999.
In 2001, Malzahn took over for legendary coach Jarrell Williams at Springdale High School. Malzahn continued the rich tradition of the Bulldogs’ program. He led the program to two state championship game appearances in his last four years, winning the title in 2005.
Malzahn's 2005 squad at Springdale went 14-0, easily won the state’s Class 5A championship, outscored its opponents 664-118, including a 54-20 victory over West Memphis in the state championship game, and was consistently ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation.
Malzahn was part of the Razorbacks 2006 season in which they won the SEC Western Division championship. (although lost to LSU that year...
During the 2007 season Malzahn emerged as one of the premier offensive coordinators in the nation, as Tulsa ranked 1st in the nation in total yards per game, ahead of Texas Tech and Hawaiʻi, and with a more balanced attack than both teams.[4] The Golden Hurricane also ranked 3rd in the nation in passing[5] and led their conference in scoring. Tulsa became the first team in NCAA history to have a 5,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and three 1,000-yard receivers in a single season.[6][7]
In 2008, Tulsa was again the nation's most prolific attack, leading with nearly 7,980 total yards of offense averaging 570 yards per game.[9] The Golden Hurricane were ranked 2nd in the nation in scoring behind Oklahoma, scoring over 47 points per game.[10] Tulsa not only ranked 2nd in the nation in scoring that year, but finished with the 2nd highest scoring offense in the history of major college football. The offense was also the nation's most balanced attack, ranking 5th in the nation in rushing[11] and 9th in passing.[12] The Tulsa quarterbacks finished 3rd in the nation in passing efficiency, behind only Oklahoma and Texas.
And we know how things are at Auburn.
Get this guy a DC that knows the SEC (Chief) and LSU will successful for a long time.

Tubbs: Defensive-minded coach who gets his players to play hard and is good in big game. His downfall at Auburn was Tony Franklin. Getting up there in age, though, isn't he?
Malzahn: intriguing, but I am still Mike Archer scarred from hiring up-and-cominig assistants who have never been a HC. More of a stretch than I want.
Pelini: Frick no. Get ready for plenty of 8-win seasons. Just not a good fit.
Take those and throw them as far as possible away from BR. N fricking way we need anything to do with these quacks.
TTubby how soon we forget how he led those thuggs from the plains and made a farce out of the Eye of Death Valley. enough said.
Malzahn- aint nothing he is just cashing in off Cammy Boy.
Bo had some of the best assistants to work with of any DC Coach so no and we do not need anybody who trewats his players without respect.

The majority of fans had no clue who he was. He was known in coaching circles and that was about it.

No he isn't. Look at his bio at Tulsa and last season at Auburn. I can accept if people don't want this guy but at least learn something about him before spouting off at the mouth. You just seem misinformed when you post shite like this.
Posted on 1/11/11 at 10:08 am to Tiger Authority
Of the three metnioned Malzahn is the only one worth taking a chance on. And anyone who thought Saban was not a good hire just didn't follow college football much other than watching LSU.

I need to see some more success post Cam before I jump on the Gus bus. His success in Arkansas High School ball is pretty meh to me considering 5A Arky Ball is about the equivalent to 2A Texas...That and Springdale was about 2x bigger than any other school in 5A while he was there.
