Maybe, just maybe, Alleva knew what he was doing? No way we could have won a bidding war with Texas, right?

If you don't win you at least force them to pay a higher price. Bowing out at the notion is such a pussy move.

If Herman was using us for leverage over Texas, why give him that leverage? Herman just signed a deal for $5 mil when he was hoping for $6 or $7 mil.

Hell, Alleva just cost Herman about $2 mil per year. How's that for a "frick off" message?

Alleva was never going to spend the money. We have an administration that is weak and not concerned with doing what it takes to make LSU a contender year in and year out.

To make Texas pay more. Herman is not the enemy, Texas is. But allowing Texas to get off cheap on Herman their boosters will now be willing to drop big money on elite coordinators, one of which we have.

Two points:

1) Herman was playing us and we sniffed it out. He was trying to use us and we said "get lost."

2) Texas is not an enemy. We rarely play them. Who cares?

There was never going to be a bidding war. Especially over an unproven coach. Alleva didn't want the financial burden. He made the safe choice.

In 3-4 years we'll know more about Orgeron's coaching abilities without any financial repercussions if he doesn't pan out. We'll also know more about PJ Fleck, Jeff Brohm, Matt Rhule, Phil Montgomery, Mike Norvell, Chad Morris, Willie Taggart.. AND we'll have a roster loaded with talent to boot. Maybe they thought about this, too.

we'll never know this now because we quit before we even saw what we were up against.

for all we know, he came out of his Texas meeting and told his agent "god dammit! i wish LSU was still in this thing"

but we weren't there anymore. leaving the guy a choice to either sign on a top 5-10 job or stay at fricking Houston and hope another top tier job comes open next year.

At that point of time the good ones will be just as sought after like Herman is now. LSU should be ready to pay big bucks if O doesn't pan out and it might be well over 5 mil.

, is that what LSU has become?

A school that screws the hired coach out of money by not negotiating more?

Yea, that'll show that coach for signing somewhere else

More like Alleva played us and we took it hook, line, and sinker.

We cant land the two hot guys so we have to settle on a DL coach who two years ago was out of a job and was a disaster in his only HC job?

It was a fixed search. We went cheap. A two year old can see that.

How many years do we have to suck before we aren't the universal enemy?

It's not whether or not you're good. It's just that nobody likes you.

Well the gay admins at Texas saw Tom Herman kissing all of his football players at Houston and viewed it as an expression of gay pride. Hence, once they saw Herman kissing all those football players, no way they would have lost a bidding war for Tom Herman.

I don't blame Alleva, an unproven coach with very little head coaching experience at a second tier university with another coach's players isn't worth $5 million dollars. I won't be surprised to see Herman become the next Charlie Strong.

6MM is Saban type money....that is rediculous. I would be Ok with paying a coach that kind of money when they come with a resume that warrants it! Herman doesn't have that. TBH, it seems like UT jumped the gun a bit. If you're the almighty Longhorns....don't you have a desire to interview or pull an actual big name coach to to irrelevant program that isn't going to a bowl game this year? Seemed like a knee jerk, and was handled extremely poorly on both Herman and UTs side.

If Herman wanted to be here, he would be here now. His interest was lukewarm at best while waiting to see what Texas was going to do.

Yes, yes, it may have been his "dream job," etc.

But god, they fire a coach and hire the hottest young coach in America, an offensive genius, in less than 24 hours. I'm blown away by that.

Compare that to our shitshow.
