It's not all about what Aranda is worth. It's worth it to aTm. They played this well.
Even if Aranda stays it still costs LSU to overpay to keep him and/or more PR damage to the program showing increased instability. Which snowballs to recruiting, fan support, OC coaching search, sponsors dollars, booster money, etc.

Otherwise, the search will be nationwide, top 8 pay for a proven coach and people will line up to interview despite narratives otherwise. There is a 102k seat stadium, fertile recruiting grounds, proven track records, academic centers for athletes, and the highest paid coaching staff in the country.

Where does ALL the new money that every SEC school is waving around right now come from? Sports television. What is dying an accelerating death as we speak? Sports television, especially ESPN. Ratings for college football are already dropping across the board, including the SEC. it isn’t just the NFL. The peak has passed and we are at the beginning of the downward slope. Combine lower ratings with people dropping cable in growing numbers and you don’t have a slow decline. You have the sports version of 2008 coming.
The conference will NEVER make as much in subscription fees selling game streaming direct to fans as they make in cable tv revenue right now. They are already pricing middle class consumers out of game tickets. There is nowhere programs can turn to make up the tens of millions that are going to disappear soon. Right now we are at the top of the coaster, and the ride down is going to kill a lot of programs. We will look back at situations like this in the future and laugh.

That's pretty much where we're at. I'm sure LSU can offer to raise Dave to 2.5, 2.6 but that's probably it. Let him walk and offer whoever is considered to be the 2nd best DC in the country 2 million per and see if he can turn it down. Idk...
