honestly though 6 of their 7 national titles aren't that impressive. any title before 98 is not nearly as impressive as 98 and forward. You have multiple polls awarding titles and such. They very rarely matched up 1 vs 2 in the bowl games for titles.

LSU with 2 bcs titles is more impressive than OU with its one and the arse beatings it has taken since then.

You are right though history from way back isn't that big of deal to todays current recruits. I do think Bama can pull it off because BAMA does a good job of marketing its history.

so five years after NS retires all the natties at Bama will be history. So you think not one recruit will be shown the bama history of what can be accomplished should they come play for the new coach. I think all schools recruit based on their history. the U has not been relevant in a number of years but they are not having problem getting kids.

This.

the land scape has changed.

The interesting part is LSU, Texas and Bama have all withstood the latest shifts. why? because of location. Alabama, Louisiana, Texas continue to produce talent. Also those schools commit more resources to winning.

It is so much easier to maintain a program when you can fall back on instate talent during lean times. If you have to recruit national like Tennessee does then it leads to a long road back to being something.

DA U has no problem getting kids because the talent surrounds them. They have proven they can win by creating the state of Miami.

recruiting radius kicks the frick out of history.

Also we are talking history from the 50s and such doesn't matter as much as recent. Also Bama like I said is a complete exception considering the circumstances. OU was good in the 70s.

Nebraska is having trouble getting talent, so is Penn State, Texas really fell off twds the end of Mack Browns career, Tennessee struggled to get talent, just before Fulmer was let go. Tradition is awesome, but it's not the be all, end all, when it comes to recruiting players, and a coach.

No, you didn't understand anything I said. The state of Alabama and the resources available to Alabama are better than they are at OU.

It takes a lot of persuasion to get a kid to pack his bags for the midwest. Furthermore, what recruits has the state of OU produced? They have to constantly reach into Texas for recruits. This is why they are voting "NO" to Houston Big 12 bid.

Let's also be clear that most kids do not commit to the program but the coach. They go to Bama to play for the best coach. The history is just icing on the cake. Had history alone recruited the kids then Alabama would've done well in the 00's.

Penn state is a deeper problem, there just aren't that many kids that enjoy being called pedo state.

yep, mainly due to population shifts and kids just not wanting to play in the middle of nowhere.

It is so much easier for LSU and BAMA because instate talent can at least keep things going. when you don't have instate talent you have to expand so much more energy on each recruit.

look at our class we have had very little defections since we axed les miles. Any school that makes a coaching change that isn't something like FSU with Jimbo usually has a splash of recruits leave.

in state kids are much more likely to wait and see who is the next coach and if they fit because they want to be at the program.

ND, Pedo state, and the huskers don't have the instate guys to help them. If they strike out on a coach its bad news.

Exactly, the state of Oklahoma doesn't produce a lot of talent, so OU has to recruit Texas, and other states first, unlike LSU and other schools in the south. Don't get me wrong, they have to recruit local talent, but there simply isn't enough here for them to "survive", in order to be a competitive team.

yep and OU is always behind at first in the recruitment of a out of state kid. Sure you have some kids that just want a change of scenery so its bit easier to pull them, but most kids want to stay in state. You have to work so much harder when you are the 2nd and 3rd choice to prove that you are better for them.

OU typically recruits in the top 10-15 and currently has a top 5 class....they pay over 5 mil a year and have a 300 mil upgrade being completed in 16/17. How could LSU be considered a better job?
