A press conference was hurriedly arranged to seal the deal

Does anyone remember what happened?

I remember him saying he wasn’t leaving and then leaving us on Christmas fricking Day.

What’s your point here?

Oh yeah, Saban was a real dick. Because he wouldn’t make a decision, Bonnette had to miss family Christmas in Lake Charles in case they had to have some press conference, and he ended up leaving anyway after they went to Orlando.

No, Skip Bertman got tired of NFL rumors and told Saban to eff off. He didn't regret leaving LSU. He got pushed out the door.

That's not true. Bertman may have been growing tired of the annual NFL rumors, but he never came close to saying anything at all like that to Saban. Bertman knew that it was inevitable that Saban would eventually want to give the NFL a try, so he managed it the best that he could.

That’s not close to what happened. I have heard Skip tell the story. Nick wanted to stay but every time he told Huizenga no he upted the offer. The last offer included $800K to furnish his new home in Miami. Skip basically told Nick he would be a fool not to take it. Skip knew after the 2003 season it was just a matter of time. They had a mutual respect for each other.

and at the time, Nick wasn't leaning towards leaving. So, in essence, Skip told him to go. I know some of you guys worship Skip. But, he didn't even try to keep Nick. He told him to leave because he was tired of NFL rumors.
