re: The Whole "Nielsen Drama" is 1 of 2 Things-1 is Good, 1 is Bad

Well said Bjorn. Accurate and concise.
IMO, this is all about Sean Payton being butt hurt over a few things:
-losing to Tampa in what was most likely his his best shot at another championship the day before,
-losing another top assistant (in general and b/c it’s to LSU, again),
-being made aware that negotiations were taking place behind the scenes (in some form or fashion) during prep week of Tampa bay.
In the end, I don’t believe it is going to be possible to prevent an employee from leaving a private company in order to achieve a promotion at another institution.
The optics of this situation lead me to believe Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis have a case of sour grapes, and they are going to do whatever to make things difficult for Nielsen because they are pissed off about losing a top-notch assistant

Considering the fact we only sacked Brady 1 time Sunday maybe CSP should be pissed if that occurred don't you think?

Pure conjecture here. They've already lost an assistant and a FO guy this season, and there have been tons of assistants leave in the last ~15 years.
Occam's razor dictates that they don't want another Brady situation, or this is something that typically happens but is quickly resolved but is being blown massively out of proportion by the "Saints hate LSU" fans and media type.

"Don't the Saints have an obligation to those same taxpayers to field a competitive team? The Saints organization doesn't owe LSU anything."
No they have an obligation to provide the State with a return on investment. Instead our legislators give them naming rights/concession/parking revenue. It's a net loss.

Why did the Saints even give O permission for the interview if they were going to be whiny babies? Something stinks here for sure.

While I have absolutely no inside knowledge or "sauces"... I think your take on this is wrong...
Coaches come and go with great regularity across the coaching spectrum and Sean Payton knows this... Also, I kinda doubt CSP is that deep in the weeds of contract negotiations.
On the other hand, it is quite likely that any coach (including CSP) would be less that enthusiastic about losing some coaches over others...
IMO, this has more to do with a media person grabbing a headline that anything of any real substance...
time will tell....

Seriously, somebody in Metairie or Kenner needs to go put up a BIG "Free Ryan" sign on any part of the Saints facility that fronts Airline Hwy............

LSU/Woodward/O did not do their due diligence by turning over every stone, ie. going over his current contract & preparing for what it would take to get him to LSU, before going all in.
LSU has known about this "clause" & the only issue before it can be made official is how LSU will compensate the Saints to get Nielsen &/or contract verbiage that affects Nielsen's future NFL opportunities.
I sure hope it is the latter because if Woodward & O didn't do their homework before going this public & deep into this, then that is a huge warning sign, along with O's other hiring fiascos, that this administration can't be trusted to make/close on the big time hires that a program needs if it is expected to compete with the big boys.

The ones who should know what his contract says are the Saints (who OK'd the interview) and Nielsen's lawyer/agent who manages his contract. I doubt LSU would have visibility of his contract outside of conversations with Nielsen's team.

What ingest is there is a disagreement to the language too.
So O, Nielsen, Nielson’s agent, LSU’s lawyers may have al read the contract one way and the Saints another.

Non competes are usually barely worth the paper they are written. Especially if the language is vague enough for the two parties to have two separate interpretations of it.
If it ever went to court, I doubt it would take long for them to rule on Nielsen’s side.

Pay back for taking assistants away from the team. One of them got to go back to the NFL and it is now a threat to New Orleans! See what happened when LSU gets some coaches from New Orleans? Then go to their rivals and it does more harm to New Orleans.

I don't disagree, but I haven't seen an official statement on what the contract issue is. Some reports online say the question is whether Nielsen can take a college job. If that's true why would the Saints OK an interview?
The other story I've seen is whether the move is lateral or a promotion. Money and title SHOULD supersede NFL vs college.
There has been no mystery that LSU was interested in Nielsen and especially once Freeman took the ND job. Once LSU approached the Saints they should have been forthright if there was going to be an issue. If they weren't that's a total douche move on their part for LSU and Nielsen. At this point who knows?

There’s nothing stopping their rivals from hiring Neilsen right now so this doesn’t make any sense.

I just don’t see how the Saints can call this lateral move with a straight face

Atlanta, Carolina, TB could hire Neilson today!
It's not a good look for SP and NO to stand in the way! This happens every year for NFL teams.
