I will be the first to say that new hires are messy and nothing and nobody is a sure thing.

That being said, I believe he is the guy and we would likely make mistake if we look to make a splash hire by trying to hire the big name. He excels in the areas that i think would put LSU in the national title picture regularly.

- Culture: His players love him and are completely bought in to the program. They had several power 5 type kids who had the opportunity to transfer to bigger schools but decided not to because of him and the culture they have. They play incredibly hard for him and are very team oriented. Outside of 2019, LSU has had serious culture and attrition issues under Les & O. Lack of effort on the field and kids moving on before they should. Year after year, we’ve had juniors with 7th round & FA grades that go to the draft while Bama would have kids return with late 1st and 2nd round grades. We haven’t been able to compete with that. I feel like Billy is more capable to fix that.

- Recruiting and developing the line of scrimmage: We’ve seen massive drop off here with our line play. Billy has built that program from the inside out with emphasis on the offensive and defensive lines. One example is their OT Max Mitchell. He was recruited by nobody and is now considered a top 15 OT and will likely get drafted. Several of their OL could start for LSU today. I’d love to see the beasts that he could draw to LSU and develop them.

There are others , but I feel like the 2 issues above are hugely important moving forward.

He’s won big at a school with limited resources….26-5 since his first year. He’s coached with the best (Saban, Dabo, etc.) and has seen first hand how to do it. He knows how to build a program, coach, and recruit.

Billy just has the “it” factor. That’s the reason Auburn and South Carolina wanted him directly after interviewing him. Dudes a winner and I could see him at LSU for a long time. With our resources, I feel like he can take us to the next level.

You might be right. I’m just saying he should.

This would make way too much sense for the people on this board. They’d rather we chase a name & complain bc he’s a “diversity” hire.

The last time LSU hired a coach that had never been a HC at a Power 5 school, we ended up with Curly Hallmen. No thanks.

Don’t confuse who I’m talking about with the other two. He’s certainly sharper than both and many would consider him as an offensive “guru”.

Your ra ra comment tells me you haven’t looked into Napier.

LSU will pass on Napier and someone like Florida will end up with him.

Then he'll win a naty.

Then everybody will say, "Well shite, we should've just hired Napier."

Book it.

Dude is an awesome coach and people dont want him because he's from in state...smh.

The two places where he was an OC did not.

The man wears camo pants to coach.

He’s just missing a catchy slogan like row the boat or naming of practice days about telling the truth

He had 1 year at Arizona State because his head coach was fired. It certainly wasn’t because of Billy. In his one year, he took their offense rank from 81 to 36.

On military appreciation night yes, yes he did. Is that bad?

He will probably end up at Ole Miss when Kiffin leaves. Whether Kiffin leaves now for LSU or if he waits to leave to go directly to Alabama in three years instead of using us as a stepping stone. Ole Miss will have no problem hiring him and he will do well there.

Good thing he is, I guess. They tried to keep him at Arizona State and promoted him to AHC but he left for ULL.

Pretty sure he did and may still call the plays on offense.

Just saw this from 247…

quote:

"The best fit is Billy Napier of nearby Louisiana. He’s the perfect SEC head coach with the recruiting credentials and blueprint to build a program around a massive and cohesive staff of coaches and analysts to contend for championships, no matter the location. He’s doing it in Lafayette and with a much deeper well of resources at LSU, would challenge Alabama for the best staff and organization in the country. His name has inexplicably cooled after an early-season loss to Texas, but this shouldn’t be a decision based on the same grading curve as the College Football Playoff committee. Napier is already the best coach in that state and, honestly, might be the second-best Football CEO south of the Mason-Dixon Line (yes, that includes Kirby Smart). "Napier's a Saban protege but he has tweaked the GOAT’s formula to fit his personality and, most importantly, recruiting tactics. He’s also not an outsider like many of the other names you’ll see pop up on LSU hot boards across the internet. LSU should not dip its toes in the same pool as USC just because a search firm needs to validate the $25,000 it charges a school for seeking and “vetting” candidates in a “national search.” College football is still a regional game, so keep the hires regional. Don’t overthink this, LSU. Napier just makes sense and making him the first target — and communicating as much to him personally — should be priority No. 1 for LSU’s administrators today (not tomorrow)." — Brandon Marcello, 247Sports
