Some of you dont recall but when Stallings retired the natives in Ttown were restless and were asking that Dubose be named the new coach. I am referring to the younger posters on here. Us old coots cant forget Dubose.

25 years later then same thing is happening down on the plains. I see a lot of posts on my social media from AU fans who want Cadillac as their new coach. He definitely has been a feel good story for AU but I think the results would be similar to Bama's in the long run and I would be shocked if he were named as the permanent HC. But as a Bam I hope Caddy gets the nod.

Cohen and the committee want plenty of SEC experience. They need to pay attention to what BK did @ LSU. He brought back their master recruiter Frank Wilson to hold the family together.

Auburn needs a very smart head coach that is an Xs & Os master tactician (again BK is a great example because his halftime adjustments are 2nd to none) that will hold the family together at the same time by keeping Caddy and maybe bringing Rodney Garner back from Tennessee.

Is Trooper making a return visit to the plains. He and Caddy on the same sidelines would be entertaining to watch.

Trooper should be in prison.

He has never been an Auburn man.

How much SEC experience did Kelly have?

And no, you can’t count getting blown tf out by Bama as “SEC experience”.

You’re leaving out a very important detail. Up until Saban was hired, Bama fans and the program itself were obsessed with hiring coaches connected to Bear. The only coaches I recall that had no connection were Bill Curry who they ran out of town and Mike Price who loved hookers and had the tide rollin in other ways if you know what I mean. There was also Franchioni who left them holdin the rope. The latter two listed came after Dubose but after Price was fired they went back to the Bryant connection well with Shula.

Shula had Bama connection but never played for Da Bear.

Shula graduated in 85 making him part of the Bear’s final couple recruiting classes, but you’re right he didn’t play until 84. The other person in the mix for the HC job was Sly Croom, also one of Bryant’s players. Like I said, Bryant’s legacy played a huge part in Bama’s hiring process up until Saban was hired.

Shula was recruited by Ray Perkins to Alabama and his final season was 1986.

I think Auburn fans are caught up in the energy and emotion that Caddy is generating. He’s bringing some pride back and subsequently relief from such a horrid season.

It would be a great feel good story about a beloved former star, current coach takes the helm and brings Auburn back to competing with its long time rivals.

However, he is not ready to run this program and has a lot to learn. He will always be one of my favorite players and I hope one day he can be that guy. It certainly has been a great way to finish up the season.

And these fans are disconnected from reality or do not actually follow football

they post on a sports site but I think the feel good thing is waying heavy with some. Either way it would not be a smart move and Bama found out after Dubose got fired

Idk man. He seems like a great fit. And we all know how important that fit is. Gotta be someone from the area who likes local cuisine and whatnot.

No way can an outsider win in the sec

Didn’t say he didn’t fit. He’s just not ready experience wise.
