The dollars saved on his contract would be put towards NIL/revenue sharing.

They have discussed firing him for cause if he doesn’t agree to the new contract. He's owed nearly $25 million on his current contract.

A source tells
@On3sports
that Oklahoma State offered Mike Gundy a reduced contract that would come with assurances he would go all-in on NIL.
The dollars saved on his contract would be put towards NIL/revenue sharing. If Gundy does not agree, Oklahoma State will terminate his existing deal and launch a head coaching search.

What did he do to warrant being fired for cause?

Feels like this would just cost them more when you throw in the legal fees.

He called the fanbase poor. Really, they just want him gone.

I always liked OSU but frick them if this is true. Gundy is an American hero and deserves to leave on his terms.

Take a pay cut or we will fire you.

Wow Okie Lite deserves whatever trash HC they get if they fire Gundy.
He is the ONLY reason they have even stayed above .500

How can they say that they would fire him for cause, but offer him another deal at the same time?
Good luck with that strategy in court

I'm surprised that boosters at more schools haven't figured this out sooner. Winning a spending war on head coaches is great for the agents, but it doesn't do anything to bring in the players.
Not suggesting Gundy deserves a pay cut, but a lot of schools have to re-think the spending model.

He does deserve a pay cut. They just went fricking 0-9 in the big 12.

OKC radio is hearing rumors he is officially gone. As a lawyer, I am getting my popcorn ready. As someone else above pointed out, how can you offer someone a new contract and yet want to fire him for cause at the same time? Imagine the legal battles that will come out of this.

Unclear how accurate the claim is, but if they did offer to cut his salary and direct it into NIL, then I think that’s a pretty reasonable middle ground for a guy that’s been around for so long and had such a bad season. Just like he could yank a players high NIL offers if he stunk that hard for a year
But idk what kind of leverage Oklahoma state has here in terms of getting out of the buyout. Seems odd to say you have evidence of something that could completely void his contract due to morals, contract detrimental, or even incompetence- while at the same time offering him the ability to return if he shaves a bit off the top of the bill.

Maybe in his mind he thinks his contract is what it is, negotiated and done. Now you want to pay the players? Fork over the money... I'd probably see it the same way, schools are throwing away money and he's proven (for that school).
If you want to compete, pay. If you made a bad contract, you pay for that too. Seems like OSU is trying to be fiscally conservative in a time when winners are not. This reversals of fortune for Gundy teams might have been him poisoning the well a little bit.
Hope he's not done as a HC but he's fine no matter what, just like having characters as coaches in cfb.

I know somebody will take that job, because it's a job, but they really are limiting their pool of candidates if they're doing this to a coach that is an alum, was OC, then HC and was HC for 19 years. This is the shady shite you pull on a coach that's been there for two years and you realize you really fricked up hiring. Not someone that has represented your school for over a quarter-century. They're making that job a stepping stone job. You take that until you can get a big 10 or SEC job and run like your life depends on it

Agreed. Big fan of coach gundy, but im sure there are still bitter feelings from when he used to annually use job openings as leverage for a raise.
