Their innaguaral season is in 2012 and the finalists are Dennis Franchione and an ex DC at UTexas that has been an NFL coach as well (forgot the name). Jerry something? Anyways, with Larry Cocker at UTexas - San Antonio, and potentially a big name hire at Texas State...interesting to think about.

Have fun being a cellar dweller in the WAC.
They win the SLC one time and think they can make a jump and be significant.

I'm pretty sure it's Jerry Ball you're thinking of, although I havent heard his name mentioned around town
it's going to be Leach in the shocker of the year

No thanks. I'll take McNeese and it's multiple conference championships and consistently winning at a lower level than making that jump and the making the football season mean absolutely nothing.

Are the the Fighting Armadillos? Is Rob Schneider their radio announcer?

I bet you'd be pretty happy if McNeese were given the opportunity to compete in the FBS, make bowl games, form a rivalry with La Tech, etc.

I actually think Texas State could end up being okay. There is ton of talent in central Texas, and there are worse places to live than San Marcos. I agree that it's a big transition, but they might get it together up there.

Negative.
FCS uses the playoffs to determine a National Champion.
Why would I get excited for something when you're playing for absolutely nothing at the end of the year? Excited about a rivalry game?
The non-BCS conferences play for a conference title. That's it. Maybe I would get excited for that, but I am excited for that every year and then you can add to the fact you can actually play for a national championship. Not an insignificant bowl trophy.

I got my B.S. from texas state and hope they can get a decent team together in the next few years. They have a large enrollment (> 30,000) but a god awful alumni base. They don't donate for crap. Plus half the students are t-shirt texas fans.

most "alum" end up working in the public school system, or bartend for 15 years. There's not alot of disposable income. Plus, once you cross Sessoms or LBJ, there is almost no school pride/signs/banners. Nobody gives a shite, because those that do graduate never stick around.

Very true on both. The school really needs to start gearing towards sciences (and business) to bring in more money and move the frick away from mass comm.

I hate to say, but they should have joined the sunbelt where they probably could have been a "dominant" program. I don't see them becoming any better than ULM, ULL, UTEP, New Mexico State, etc. for another ten years. Then they may move into the ranks of a Tulane or La Tech.
IMO & IMHO

I live in Austin. Maybe we can get a home and home with them real soon?
