They have been dying to move up to D-1 for years. There was a public initiative, marketing strategy, campaign and so forth. There was no surprise they were going to jump at the first chance to move up.

I remember when they started their drive to FBS. About a week after they kicked off the campaign their season tickets sales ticker was at 13. 
Then an alum bought a ton of season tickets to give away and they managed to meet their goal.
