from Kurt Bohls(30+ year reporter for Austin Statesman), that he's hearing the interim AD will announce very soon that Charlie Strong WILL be back in 2017.
Said their are many factors in play, but mostly the president and BOD want a full time AD in place(interim there now will be gone in May), they really like the culture he's built, and lastly they think the 2017 team will be very good and want to see that play out(18 starters return).
He said this could all change if they lose to Kansas but assuming they beat Kansas he said the announcement would be made before the TCU game, thus making that outcome irrelevant.
If true this surprises me. I wonder if Herman told them no? I cant imagine them having a handshake deal with Herman and deciding on Strong over him.

Could be that no school (Texas,LSU,USC) contacted him and the performance of Houston had nothing to do with Herman going somewhere else.
Performance + money figures agent was giving =
Get more skins on your wall before you go full retarded.

That sounds so familiar. He'll be fired by game 5 next season if they keep him.

Maybe. But Texas is in a different situation given the interim AD. And really, if Strong stumbles out of the gate next year, either Herman will still be available or there will be a new Herman.
At least Texas doesn't seem to be basing this choice on funding issues or public outcry of support.

Maybe LSU and Herman really do have an under the table agreement. Maybe the Jimbo, O, & Fedora talk is all a smoke screen?
Who am I kidding, I don't think these decision makers are organized enough to pull something like that.

I tried to tell everyone this a few weeks ago. Not only is the athletic director situation a big part, but so is stability. Texas is not a program that is going to fire coaches every 3 years. In the last few years they've ran off their football, basketball, and baseball coaches. Those coaches had been at Texas for 15, 17, and 19 years with varying degrees of success.
Firing Charlie Strong would signal to every coach out there that we will not give you ample time to pick up the pieces and fix something that is wrong. It's simply unfair. It would temporarily make fans and boosters happy. But, they'd then expect every coach to be fired if they have a few subpar seasons.
Nope. Not similar at all. Charlie actually has Texas playing better today than the day he took over. It was the opposite for Les Miles. LSU was not better during the Auburn game than we were when Les Miles took over. And Miles was told explicitly what he had to fix and he refused to do it, or was incapable. These situations are nothing alike.
And, Texas is going to win 10+ games next year.

I've been saying for a few weeks now that I would be shocked if they did fire Strong. I know it's the popular thing to say they suck and have to fire him, but they have actually shown continuous improvement throughout the season. Plus, it's a team full of freshman and sophomores starting.

All that means to me is we get to keep Aranda.

That's what I'm starting to think as well.

The way I look at it, if it is down to Herman and Jimbo, we are in a no lose situation IMO

Man I wish that is the case however somehow I get the feeling Alleva has the "Jimbo or bust" blinders on. Not saying Jimbo would be a bad hire but I hope he truly does his due diligence and interviews as many qualified candidates as possible, to definitely include Tom Herman!

I still want Jimbo. He's top on the list. If Alleva can't close the deal, then go after Herman

please god be true. it hopefully end this insanity of jimbo or coach o as the only choices.

Said all along.... the leaked Jimbo/Orgeron info could be one big snow job for Herman.
I want to believe!
