you can also interpret it as success in the SEC is cyclical.
and that we have to play fla every year, bama does not and lo and behold bama gets them next yr after they lose tebow and 102 starters on defense.

add that to bama's two main rivals in tenn and auburn putting together teams that absolutely suck right now and that's how saban changed things.

he's a great coach no doubt, but dude is benefitting from luck as much as his coaching skill.

So the difference between 16-0 and 8-8 is luck. Good thing we figured that out.

we will not be beating bama for a long time. When i look out the window and pigs are flying MAYBE.

I mean we can hope every year that saban leaves.

The schedule is set. Using it as a an excuse to keep a subpar coach is pathetic.

ok, maybe it's not luck, maybe it's good timing that tenn and auburn are terrible and bama is beating them on the field and the recruiting trail.

it's not an advantage to have tenn on your sched every year over fla?

I never said that, but keeping Les isn't going to fix that problem. If Les can't manage our schedule find a coach that can.

i get that you're not a miles fan, i have my doubts sometimes (as i would with any coach probably)
but LSU had a tougher road than bama.

i'm not taking anyhting away from saban he's probably right now the best coach in college football and they won the games they needed to win. but it's possible to be lucky AND good and i think he was both this year.

And we probably will for a while, which is why that we need a coach that elevates us to a level where that differences in schedule don't matter.

When you are evaluating a coach, you have to look at more than just the win and loss column. Last season, Herrell commented that Mike Leach did more with less than any other coach in the country. Conversely, Les Miles does less with more than almost any other coach in the country. It took 3 3/4 years, a broken collarbone, and a shattered ankle for the coaching staff to properly implement Trindon Holliday into our game plan (Arkansas game). Clock management has been an issue for Miles' entire tenure. See the Tennessee game after Katrina where we blew an opportunity to kick a field goal before halftime, the Auburn game last year, and the Ole Miss game this year. We consistently have far too many penalties for delay of game and offsides. LSU is not a disciplined football team. Personnel, clock management, and discipline are all issues that the coach is ultimately responsible for and issues with which Les Miles has not done well. Yes, LSU has won 9 games this season, but LSU has only looked dominant once this year (Auburn). LSU struggled mightily with Louisiana Lafayatte. The bottom line is that, under Les Miles, LSU has consistently played below their potential and down to their competition. And that makes him a failure as a head coach and that is why we "are stuck with him."

Not playing UF in the regular season is a 4 game swing in the SEC standings every year, DUH. If only Bama had to play them in the SECCG every year to even it out.

who can we get that is better than saban?
if that's not what you're going for, who can we get that's better than miles?

i think miles has one more year here unless he wins the west. i don't see how miles can win the west without beating bama, and 3 straight losses to bama might be too much for the fan base to take. i think alleva probably makes a move.

do think miles has not been afforded the chance of one more year to right the ship? would you feel the same way if bama had two sec losses each of the last two yrs?

10 wins should be attainable every single year. 11+ every 2-3 years.

I don't know why this is so hard. If you watched the games from the middle of last year on, the team is barely getting by against whoever the opponent is and looks outclassed by better coached teams like UF, Bama, hell - even Ole Miss. If you're happy with that, then you're probably happy with Miles. If however, you'd rather that LSU get back to being playing more like the team did between 2003 to mid 2007, then you prolly think Miles is a moron and needs to go.

Seriously??

I don't classify myself as a Miles hater and typically don't jump into these threads because there tends to be too much emotion and not enough substance. Or, each poster twists the numbers to fit their agenda.

Here's one simple question for you;

How many times this season did you leave Tiger Stadium or turn your TV off and say "Man, LSU played great today"? I can think of........................one. Auburn.

The other games (including OOC teams with much less talent) were usually in doubt until late in the game or even the final play. If all you are considering is the final W/L record, then the wheels will come off before you are willing to make a change, at which time we will be forced into another "rebuilding" effort. I am not advocating firing Les but 2010 can either be his redemption or swansong. We shall see.

I know next year if LSU does nto win the SEC West Miles should be packing his arse down the road. Paying Miles 4 Mil a year for 3rd place finishes in the SEC. LSU is getting Bent over by Miles and not even catching a catching a reach around.

Minus the bowl game an 8 or 9 win season will probably get you 2nd or 3rd place at best in the WEST with Saban at Bama. maybe not mediocre but definitely not championship football...and the NC is the goal every year.

we all want success. there is one segment that demands "instant" success and their definition is dominance in the sec west and bcs bowls every year. while we'd all like that, long time followers of college football (hell, any sport) realize that even good coaches have off years. bear bryant had two 6-5 years that i can remember. the segment i refer to would have been calling for his head.
