so obviously this is one of the names we've heard suggested as the new OC, and this would be an absolute home run. he basically puts up the same kind of numbers we had in 2007, when LSU set 11 school records
2010
total offense: 477 ypg (12th in the country)
scoring offense: 42 ppg (4th)
passing offense: 230 ypg (53rd)
rushing offense: 247 ypg (10th)
time of possession: 33:43 (2nd)
2009
total offense: 457 ypg (7th)
scoring offense: 38 ppg (5th)
passing offense: 217 ypg (59th)

He is one of my top three. My biggest question is that he is a co-OC. So is he responsible for a majority of the offense?

Just looking at these stats suggests that he and Les would mesh well in their offensive philosophies. Likes to run the ball, but is also effective in the passing game. My favorite part is the T.O.P. We have the personnel to execute this offense and I think it would be a great hire.

It's more than that. He's competing against significantly inferior opponents 80% of the time.
That's not to say he is a bad hire. But, this is a case where you may want to look at things other than statistics.

That was also the biggest problem when Les hired some fella named Pelini a few years ago. You might have heard of him.

Here is his bio from Illinois St where he was OC/QB coach:
Former Oklahoma and Murray State quarterback Justin Fuente is in his sixth season on the Redbird staff, spending all six seasons working with the ISU quarterbacks. He enters his third season as the offensive coordinator.
During his span as coordinator of the Redbird offense, ISU has registered record-setting and conference leading numbers. The 'Birds have led the Gateway in total offense in two of the last three seasons.
In 2005, the Redbirds ranked No. 5 nationally in both total offense (477.55) and scoring offense (39.18). The 'Birds were also first in the league in passing offense with 268.73 yards per game.
His knowledge of the Redbirds' offensive system is unique since he played in the same scheme at Murray State during a time when Denver Johnson was the head coach.
Fuente, a highly-recruited high school product from Tulsa, Okla., set an OU freshman record with 11 touchdown passes before moving on to Murray State where he became one of the most prolific throwers in I-AA football.
He set 11 Racer records, including total offense and passing yards in a season and game.
Fuente was the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, the highest honor bestowed to an offensive player in Division I-AA.
After his Murray State career, Fuente played in the Arena League with the Oklahoma Wranglers.
An all-academic pick at both of his college stops, Fuente holds a degree in finance from Murray State.
Fuente also has been active in community service projects and is a past spokesperson for the United Way.
He and his wife, Jenny, the associate head coach for the Illinois State volleyball team, reside in Bloomington.

I can't believe there is actually discussion about hiring guys like Roper from Duke when there are guys like this out there. Fuente is the best man to call the LSU offense.
