BREAKING: David Shaw just announced he has coached his last game at Stanford.

Shaw said he came to his decision in the last few days. Said "It's time." "There is no desire for me to coach somewhere else."

It's not easy to win at Stanford normally, but in the NIL era, I'm not sure it's even possible. Can't see anyone wanting that job right now.

Why not? Stanford seems like the easiest place to win in the NIL era. Get a couple of billionaires on board to back the program and tell every kid I’ll give you a top 5 education in the world and 200k a year to come here in cash. Eventually someone from Harvard/Stanford etc is going to do this and blow it open

Harbaugh did wonders there

Are there any of the tech billionaire Stanford grads that have any interest in football? The administration is also so conservative and image obsessed that they wont push the boundries on NIL like you need to to win.

I think the Rice coach is the old OC, be a solid hire

Lane just signed a new deal. Stanford gets to pay his new buyout.

He probably feels bad for taking 9.5 million a year from those nerds.

Man, Stanford could do awesome with NIL. I don’t agree with you at all. shite, Tiger Woods could sponsor a few stars.
They have some big boosters too that are loaded.
Not sure they agree with the ethics of it and will get into the mud pit, but I see that being their only hold back with NIL.

Stanford has the problem too of older players not being able to get into Grad School at Stanford, so they have to hit the portal to continue playing college football.

If Prime ends up there...we're in a simulation.

Could be another triple option built program.

Willie Fritz makes a lot of sense here if Stanford wants to poach.

Should be easier, Stanford is loaded.

This job is a Chris Peterson wet dream. He can recruit smart kids, have no pressure, doesn’t have to play dirty, etc.

I’d love to see what Troy Calhoun could do at a larger school. Granted he does have NFL ties and I don’t think he’s married to the option, but I think he’s a damn good coach

Stanford, Northwestern, GA Tech, Vandy and a few others with higher than normal admissions standards should make their own Ivy League 2.0 conference.

The early signing period and transfer portal really killed this job.
Stanford doesn’t typically announce admissions until after the early signing period. It makes it nearly impossible for them to get many spring enrollees.
Stanford’s grad school also doesn’t just admit every athlete that went to Stanford undergrad. Even schools like Duke, NW, etc. typically admit current players into their grad schools.
So Stanford can’t rely on freshmen as much because they get on campus later, and they can’t rely on veterans as much because graduates may be forced to transfer out.

You guys are missing the big picture here for private schools and academically-focused public schools. They may have access to NIL money, but they can’t ever hope to either use or combat the portal effectively.
Any player who wants to move up will be able to and likely match or make more in NIL. Moving that direction is really easy for them. Not so much for the schools. Those that take a hard line on academics will be limited to only players in the portal who meet their entrance requirements to replace them, which is always going to put them at a severe disadvantage. That talent drain is always going to go one direction, and it’s against the academic schools.
While many of these schools have rich alumni, what they don’t have are the massive alumni bases that all of the public universities they are competing with so. They may be able to match money for some of their best players, but they still aren’t going to have the reach that bigger programs do. Add in the grad school restrictions at places like Stanford (which not all of these schools have) and you have some major disadvantages.

Stanford billionaires aren't football fans to say the least.
