regarding LSU's coaching "search" timeline.

A week ago (Tuesday, 11/22) Arkansas' football ops department was contacted to speak with OC Dan Enos. It is not known what the call was regarding, although it is generally believed - now that O has been named the HC - that the call was placed to gauge interest in joining O's staff. LINK

The reason this all seems peculiar is because of the date this occurred, which doesn't line up with the theory that Herman was on the table until Thursday/Friday and Orgeron was named only when that fell through. I realize that Orgeron could've simply been gauging interest to have that feather in his cap when the meeting went down, but I don't see an official athletic department to athletic department call being placed in that situation, unless it was known at that time that they were going with Orgeron.

TLDR: either the search ended sooner than Alleva let on and the Herman deal actually fell through/was never happening earlier than reported, or they've known for a long while that O would be named as permanent HC

I have no sauces but here's my guess...

Orgeron went into his Friday (11/26) meeting with Alleva and in his vaunted binder he had a list of proposed OCs and verbal assurances from them that they would come. If this is true and he were considering Enos it would make sense for him to call on Tuesday to speak with Enos to know whether to include him in his Friday presentation/interview...

But just a guess on my part.

Why does it matter?... the Herman news that was coming from Texas sources was likely a ploy to get the UTa admin to fire strong.

I think Alleva knew what he wanted to do all along but had to at least make a public effort to get Herman after the UF loss or people really would have flipped.

It's becoming pretty obvious this was a sham.

Alleva just doesn't give a shite

Period

He didn't fire JJ

And he doesn't even try to have a thorough search for football

Why would Alleva/O call the Arkansas football Ops Department to speak with Enos regarding leaving Arkansas to go to LSU for the same position. If I worked in the ops I would hang up on LSU. Don't you think LSU would call Enos's agent?

The call was for permission to place his name in the binder.

For a lateral/equal position OC to OC. He can be given an associate HC title or some other form of consultant title in addition to OC as a loophole.

I mean there were serious rumblings that O would be named after the UF game, only he choked and couldn't get it done, so that threw a wrench in the plan.

You could tell after the a&m game they all had a mission accomplished look on their faces. The Gatorade bath, giving Derek a game ball, etc.

There's no possible way that would hold up in court.

ETA: You think the lawyers drafting these contracts didn't think of that loophole. Wait I forgot you are from Arkansas.

Most non-shady ADs contact other ADs to ask permission to pursue or contact their employees. This is becoming more and more rare but used to be a gentlemans agreement among coaches, especially within the same conference.

We also aren't sure exactly who it was from LSU making the contact.

I'm just discussing what I've been told. It's also possible that whoever was making the contact wasn't aware of the non-compete, much like Kirby Smart making the same attempt last season.

It just makes absolutely no sense. The guy can't move to another SEC school unless he's getting the head job. I can almost guarantee the non-compete is rock solid. Fake titles or demotions won't be able to work around it.

I'm not trying to be a dick.

Why would O want to hire Dan Enos?
If they go Dan Enos, they're going cheap.

Nowhere close to the 2M/year That's been talked about.

He needs to make a splash hire for OC.
