Derek trying to get to that list:
Derek has requested that we have patience in this huge coaching hire. He’s constantly looking for the right candidate that will fit with the current culture. Patience, he can only get to ONE at a time.

Don't sleep on Scottie Hazelton, 47, Mich. St. DC. Has coached under O while at USC. Would be a great hire.

c) has spent type as an analyst/film breakdown guy. This is something that we refer to as "old school coaches" seem to lack. Watching opponent film for game planning and watching your own film to self-critique are two different things.
Please clarify. Are you saying "Old School" Coaches don't watch film to game plan for opponents and evaluate their own team's performance, or maybe that younger coaches don't don't do enough of that?

Just off the top of my head, for an example, using stick-model 3D modeling of an OT to determine form, technique, and motion velocity vs. watching a series of edited plays (on any format btw), even with slow motion and playback cabailities.
Or putting sensors and then mapping a DT's hands during live action drills.
The benefit is that you can put a "team" of people on one technology and analyze numbers. The older is reliant on eyes and often becomes too subjective.
It's not that it isn't available or they are incapable of using it (the "old school" coaches); it is they are not going to use it as much and often will just trust their lying eyes. And what's the use of an army of analysts, even if they use the tech, if the coaches won't use them.

About Scottie hazelton? Just a younger guy who has had stints at a lot of different places and had success in turning around defenses in a short time. he was the North Dakota State D-Line coach when they started having success in the late aughts. When he took over as DC, they won their first in a long string of nattys. Then spent some time with the Jags in the NFL. Was a LB coach for O at USC. Ended up at K-State for a season in 2019 as DC and had the 2nd best D in the Big 12. Then Michigan State went after him. Had a bad year with the Spartans, but seems to know how to turn defenses around pretty quickly. Would like to see what he could do with elite talent.

How many more decommits do we need before O gets this DC thing done so that players being recruited will know who their coach is going to be?

Kind of like the Ryan Walters angle. He should get an interview
Didn't he go to Illinois to be re-united with Bielma? Can't see him jumping ship but stranger things have happened.

About Scottie hazelton?
I would be elated if this dude would jump. We are definitely a move up from MSU. (I remember seeing articles debating how LSU was just a parallel move for one evil little genius bastard who previously migrated south from there...)
