I really wanted to ignore the stuff about his love for Steele early on, even prepared for the worst, and then it appeared we were actually going to make a good hire...
This process was a sham, I can't even name one guy associated with it who had a worse resume than Steele.

haven't read through this thread yet, and it may have been mentioned a number of times, but it's obvious why THIS was the hire.
We lost the DC/linebackers coach (chavis), and Miles wasn't going to change/shuffle the position coaches on defense or allow another DC to bring in his own staff forcing coaches to move/leave. So Miles is forced to find a DC who fits as a linebacking coach and the DC round peg into a round hole.
Some coaching candidates may have been a linebacking coach, but wanted to bring in their own guys so they got crossed off, and other candidates wanted to be the DC and coach the line or DBs so they got crossed off the list like a square peg in a round hole.
In the end, Steele was the only round peg that fit into the round hole. It's the history of Miles. He can't adapt or change his philosophy or structure, so he continues to force the issue. His offense is a perfect example. When the QB is a pro-style pocket passer it works, but when we have a dual threat QB that likes to move the pocket or scramble, the offense looks inept.
I'm not bashing the hire because it may turn out great, but after 3 weeks of searching, it is very underwhelming when you interview names like Pendergrast and Shoop and float NFL names. In the end a name that was floated early and looked like a hire that screams we settled on the easy fit is just disappointing.
I truly hope he is great, and is the right fit at LSU, but is most definitely a hire that causes concern. Anyway...

Auburn hired Muschamp
TAMU hired Chavis
MSU hired Diaz
LSU hired Steele

this is a way worse hire than promoting brick or even promoting the mall veto in 08.

the more i think about it, the more clear it is to me that this was les's choice from day 1 and he just did cya search
recruiting was the alpha, and the omega
couldn't disrupt the positional staff to maintain relationships with our class, plus les hired a recruiter-first, coach-second
Yep.
I'm starting to wonder if Les is kinda just giving up. Maybe coach this year, and if things go bad and he gets terminated, he can cash the fat check and retire, or if the same happens after 2016.
Can't imagine he and Alleva are on good terms. Chavis leaving leads me to believe he knows Miles wont be here for 3 more years for whatever reason.

This frick nut wasn't even able to handle coordinating duties for a D run by someone else, and Les is going to completey entrust him with our D? This is laughably terrible

if Bama hires Bill Clark for a year i seriously may be done

Bama going after Orgeron to fill the spot in some fashion
Posted on 1/13/15 at 7:06 pm to BilJ
Its not a bad hire. Chavis didn't recruit and Haley has finished 2nd ALOT. With Steele we get a Good recruiting DC who can actually coach up our LB's to bring pressure. Assuming Haley goes to the pros we can still get Orgeron. Steele and bebe significantly upgrade recruiting and front 7 development. Ijs

You know what you didnt mention? His ability to coordinate a defense. Call me crazy but it's something I'd like my defensive coordinator to be able to do.
But that recruiting doe...

Just please remember these feelings you have now, because somehow this board quickly forgets how much of an idiot our coach is when he somehow pulls beating an Ole Miss out of his arse

We still have one of these

But can he call a defense?

It's like the offense. If only Miles' teams could get that pesky QB thing solved they'd be good.
If only Kevin Steele could successfully coordinate a defense, he'd be good.

Much more concise way of saying it. Thanks
But also that he can't see it any other way. It's going to fit the mold or it won't work with Miles. I don't even think it has to do with his "buddies." It just looks like he didn't want to shuffle anything from how he has the deck organized. He looks like he's satisfied with the current program, and is either unwilling/stubborn, too scared or too lazy to make wholesale changes.
I hope it works for my personal enjoyment of LSU football which has been beaten to death since 1/9. But that's just me.

The silver lining....the cupboard should be full for whoever takes over.
Seriously thought how bad is the BR media ? You had kleinpeter post an article saying we were turning up the heat on our pursuit of Smart....2 fricking hours later the Steele news drops.
