I'd bet Napier is the lead candidate for the South Carolina job next year or Miss State

He is also looking around the sun belt and realizing it’s ripe for the taking.

There are some jobs he would like and South Carolina is one of them. He has been mentored heavily by Saban and Dabo.

The right situation where he can build his own legacy is important to Napier. So jobs that do not present a possibility of being successful at a very high level is not a shoe in to get Napier. Regardless of they are a better job than Louisiana.

South Carolina
Tennessee
North Carolina
Va Tech
NC State.

Any program that it’s potential exceeds expectations are great jobs for coaches looking to build a legacy.

The Cajuns are absolutely loaded for next year. The majority of impact playmakers on offense were Juniors. The impact playmakers of defense were juniors and sophomores.

Schedule lines up pretty good too.
McNeese Sep 5th
Wyoming Sep 12th
@ NMSU Oct 24th
@ Mizzou Nov 21st

We are in position to have a better season next year.

That would help but I disagree. With the guys he has coached under, I don't think he needs some major upset. He will equal or have a better year next year and be in a great position to land a really good gig.

Probably it's just as much as Napier didn't want any of them. He can bide his time. He has a better team coming back next year. More interesting jobs are likely to open, such as S Carolina.
He might just see Ark or Ole Miss as an intermediate step, but very difficult ones. He'll have other opportunities to double his salaries.

This^^^
Remember that Napier spent a lot of time w/ Saban. Napier waiting for a better HC job is consistent w/ Saban's philosophy about becoming a Power 5 head coach. I remember when Saban was LSU and the HC job at Miss State opened up (I think S. Croome was fired). Jimbo was LSU OC at the time. In print, Saban basically said one should not take a HC job just because they wanted to be a HC; he rep'd waiting for a better job, especially since he was well paid at LSU and was working at a strong program. Fast forward a few years later and Jimbo becomes the "HC in waiting" at FSU and eventually the HC there. I know things went south for him at the end, but he still won a NC at FSU and parlayed his experience into a huge contract a A&M. I doubt his career would've been that successful had he taken the first job at Miss State. If indeed Napier was offered the HC job at AR (or some other weak Power 5 program), he did himself a favor by passing on it.

Your right. Instead of Jimbo we got Dan Mullen who flamed out. There are only a dozen schools that are gonna win championships but coaches can go to plenty of schools and do well. Not getting a job at one of those 12 schools from ULaLa

Yeah, he's prob not gonna go directly from UL to one of the 12 special schools. But, he can go from UL to a school just below the special 12 (where he has a good chance to succeed)and continue to build his resume to some day go to one of the highest level programs.
