Anything that protects the QB better than this hybrid spread/option BS.
Anything that helps the running game, plus sets up better play-action passing opportunities to the TE and other receivers.
Hands down, that has to be a pro-set offense.
LSU needs to go back to developing strong run-blocking offensive line play, and the pro-set gives them a much better setup to do so. This trickery BS only works against mediocre defenses, and with the lack of continuity in play-calling by Crowton, it rarely works against these teams. It certainly won't hold up against the Bama's and FLA's of the world.

I've always thought our personnel is better suited for a pro set O.

To be honest I don't care. I don't think schemes matter as much as an actual feel for playcalling and preparation for opponents(Which is what really fricked our D last year)

pro style. I think that is what LSU's talent is suited best for. Granted, I think we can run the wildcat from here and there with Shep, but I like him in the backfield or at WR.

If I had my way every team in the country would be running the Run 'n Shoot.
but for LSU specifically..I think we have the talent at the skill positions to run a true spread. Think what Northwestern was doing back when Randy Walker was still alive or what Joe Tiller brought to Purdue.
really, I think we just need to establish an identity one way or the other. The talent is there to do pretty much whatever we want, we just can't putz around with a half spread/half pro-style no results offense like we have the last few years.

I am for a base pro-set that incorporates a few, and I mean A FEW, spread wrinkles from time to time. You can mix in a little west-coast style passing game to give us a bit more spread-like hybrid, but pro-set is the way to go.

I agree with the Jimbo playbook, we had some pretty good offenses with him here. We just need a good balance of common sense and imagination.

There is a reason why the pro's use a pro style offesne -- best way to beat strong fast defenses. We need a pro sytle offense filled with great players and coached well. Build an identity.
