Should people get mad at Jimmy Sexton?

He is doing what his clients tell him to do or agree to do.

Why should we be mad at him? He’s trying to make as much money as he can, while he can. Just like you and me.
Posted on 11/29/18 at 8:12 pm to weagle99
I’m mad because I don’t have his money

Why should people get mad at him? He's just doing his job. His job is to make his clients as much money as he can and in turn he gets paid a lot money. That's what he's paid to do and he's damn good at it. Can't fault a guy for that.

Until the presidents and AD's step up and don't pay the ridiculous salaries and buyouts he is totally in control. Too much money in collegiate sports now. It's not a good thing! Attendance is already down across the board. Wait until the season ticket base is today's millenials. They will be playing in half empty stadiums but as long as the TV money is there they will pay those high salaries and continue to push it on the fans until they say no!

Eventually (and I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet) the TV money will have to be reduced, as the ROI of advertising decreases. Right now SEC schools are benefitting from a huge investment by ESPN into their football and men's basketball telecasts. As cable/satellite subs continue to drop, and college sports becomes more of a streaming service, there will be considerably less bang for the buck for advertisers, and the contracts the SEC cuts with the networks will start to shrink as the demographics of the audience changes (I don't foresee there being enough casual CFB fans in the up and coming generation of Americans to support the current cost structure).
Tl;dr: when the money starts to dry up, the salaries will be forced back downward. Til then, don't get mad at Sexton, get mad at the college admins who agree to his terms (Steven Leath, I'm looking in your direction).

I'm not saying it's a good thing. I'm just saying you can't fault Sexton for taking advantage of that situation.

Exactly. LSU's AD gave a large buyout to a coach that no other P5 school would have even considered hiring for another 3 years.

The deal with Miles when Hogs came calling is when Alleva should have said good bye

Nope.
The SEC on CBS contract is ending soon and it's a VERY favorable deal for CBS ($55 mill per year). That price will probably triple with the next round of negotiations.
Plus, the SEC owns the product: "the actual games". ESPN is just the middle-man. If the SEC decided to produce and distribute it's own product via a streaming subscription service (which is where TV is going), they could make a killing. Basically, you cut out ESPN and just distribute the SEC Network to your customers (who aren't paying for cable anymore). It's essentially PPV model.
Attendance money is decreasing...but TV money isn't. As long as fans are demanding championships (ex: Les Miles' 9 win seasons weren't good enough) AD's are going to spend money. And if you're a coach in high demand -- YOU set the price. The AD has little leverage because the fans/boosters, etc are DEMANDING greatness.
