Should Michigan go after Steve Mariucci?

Where has he ever been any good?
He turned a 6-6 record at Cal into the 49ers job and he presided over their demise. Then, he never won anything at Detroit. Mariuccie is really overrated, in my opinion.

it's been WIDELY reported they want a guy who has some connection to Michigan football and Mariucci doesn't have one.

Are you seriously blaming him for that and not the FO for the salary cap hell the team had to suffer through until around 2006? He went 10-6, won the West, won the 2nd biggest comeback in NFL playoff history, and got fired. He had absolutely nothing to do with the demise of the team, about 30 others factors are undoubtedly more attributable. That was the last time we were competitive, under Mooch.
I think he pulls for Sparty more than Meech.

He is great friends with Tom Izzo, so he's got that going for him.

There was absolutely nothing he could've done to improve the team, we had absolutely no cap room. We couldn't even re-sign Garcia after 2003 for fricks sake. The depleted and completely devoid of talent 2004 Erickson roster that went 2-14 was a result of basically having to purge the entire late 90s-early 2000s roster that we couldn't afford because we had no cap space at all. Mooch couldn't do anything to improve the team and in retrospect it was a major mistake to fire him at the time, at least without an adequate replacement.
He wasn't a great coach, I won't even argue he was a good coach, but you have to give the state of the FO more blame than Mooch.
I'll agree that it's clear he hasn't gotten any further offers beyond Detroit for a reason though.

I lived in San Fran during Mariucci's stay and can tell you that he did little to improve that team. There was a constant sense of "the 49ers are getting worse every year" while he was there.
Then, he went to Detroit and they never got any better.
His record at Cal before the 49ers hired him was 6-6.
He took over a loaded 49ers team with Steve Young, Jerry Rice, etc. and they won at first and then got worse. Sorry about the salary cap issues, but if he were a desirable coach, he could point to at least somewhere else that he has won.

I understand the salary cap issues, as well. The idea was that the 49ers couldn't sign anyone because of salary cap issues. But, I just never got where he was that great of a coach. He had amazing talent and they good but not great - this was before the salary cap really hit them in the late 90's.
