Scott Woodward would not get fooled by a coach negotiating for a pay raise.

There are coaches that will get pay raises because of this search.
But Scott Woodward will get his man.
I think it’s Lincoln Riley.
I also think these talks didn’t start after O was fired.
Scott Woodward is smart and forward thinking.
This process started when OU and Texas agreed to join the SEC.
Lsu was in front of the SEC expansion.
LSU was in front of the NIL process
And we are in front of the expanded playoff system.
You can’t be successful if your just thinking about today.
Scott Woodward is thinking 5-10 years forward.
But Scott Woodward will get his man.

Les Miles was given a pay raise just because Arkansas wanted to interview him. If Riley stays and gets a raise it doesn't mean that Woodward was duped. It's just part of it.

That was more or less because O won the NC, not giving him a somewhat hefty raise would have just been bad optics, imo

Somewhere when this process started, I said every coach on the wish list gets a raise. No matter if they were ever a serious candidate or not.
I still believe that. If LSU has to pay big, so do those that wish to keep their coach.
This will be done with little to no effort by SW.

I understand that a lot of coaches have that clause that winning an NC makes you the highest paid coach for hat year but wouldn't it make more sense for that to take the form of a bonus rather than a permanent salary increase?

Well it drops down to Tier 2 outside the top 10 and possible into bottom tier 2, tier 3 with Stoops
And Woodward could easily be fooled by a coach look for a pay raise.
