A UTee poster in the Jayson Swain thread mentioned that the Vols under Dooley beat Butch at Cincy head-to-head the year before they hired him.

At AU, we hired two HCs in a row under similar circumstances:

- In 1992, AU blew out 1-AA Samford 55-0 in Dye's last home opener as HC. That December, Dye resigned and was replaced by Samford HC Terry Bowden.
- Six years later, Bowden resigned mid-season after winning only one of his first 6 games. The lone victory? A 17-0 shutout in Oxford, over Tommy Tuberville's Rebels.

Can you think of any other times an SEC school replaced an HC with someone he'd just defeated?

Gerry Dinardo beat the brakes off Nick Saban in the 1995 Independence Bowl

Who would have thought how the next 20 years would pan out

Houston Nutt owned Ole Miss while at Arkansas, and they hired him after we fired him. Hopefully they go back to that well and bring Bert on board after this season.

To your original question, Nutt's 2007 Arkansas team beat Ole Miss 44-8 in Oxford, and he was hired by them that December.

thats the opposite of his question. He's asking how many times has an sec school hired a coach that lost to then the previous season. So for instance if we had lost to ole miss then they hired nutt that would be an example

My bad, I misread the question.

Ed O was 0 for 4 against LSU while at ole miss. Don’t think it’s the exact same scenario that you are looking for since it was several years prior, not the year before, but it’s similar.

No, but he lost to them in '94.
