That's because a HC has HC duties. I wouldn't be surprised if Saban is forced to overextend his hands on the defensive side at times when they struggle. I have no way to prove this of course it's speculation.
All I'm saying is it's not crazy to question a Golding hire with some negatives he has.

He's the weakest link on our staff. He can't control the WR room and there has been too much descension at that position. Monken had to step in last year and take over.

Nobody is talking about Cortez as OC. He'd be a solid WR coach and you knee cap UGA at the same time in Louisiana recruiting.
Mickey was literally a figure head for New Orleans recruiting. There's a reason Brady helped WRs in 2019.
With Pete you get a multiple NC winning DC from the SEC. From Louisiana.
Sure you could go find some young hot coordinator. But that's not our calculus anymore. We go for resume now. Pete's is among the best and is a native.

Apparently Pickens is tough to coach and a few others followed his lead. Just talking back and things like that.
They wanted continuity for a championship run and Monken has intervened.
As far as recruiting, he’s pretty solid. It’s tougher to sell WRs to UGA.

Position coaches can’t suspend players. If Pickens is a cancer, that’s on Kirby.
