Am I excited about it no! Don't get me wrong Sam is a hell of a recruiter,O line coach and a great guy and I'm happy about that. It's an experiment no doubt about it. We got out maneuverd, and flat out told no buy other candidates. I'm in wait and see mode. Hope he can put together an allstar staff

It's exactly what happened. LSU whiffed on their top candidate(s) and promoted O as their fall back.
Pittman's name was ine of the initial names that surfaced, same as Kiffen, that called inquiring about the job. We whiffed on our top candidates and now we fall to Pittman.
I feel a lot better about this than promoting Lunney. Pittman is going to put together a really good staff.

frick no man, this isn’t even close to Lunney. I can be talked into this, I’ll need to see the coordinators first before I give it a grade.

I get it, but believe me, we could gave done much worse. We have to start somewhere and at least Pittman is a guy who knows what it takes to compete in the SEC. He's a proven recruiter.
After whiffing on a few of the bigger names, this is a safe hire. Better than promoting Lunney or bringing in Butch Davis.

Do you think he's not watching and learning? My guess is he is going to use the Coach O formula. Coach O didn't do what he's doing at LSU with Ole Miss. He's doing it right now and Pittman can as well.

This is the only coach that will take the job. You need someone older who is on their last legs, to set things up to "average" status when they try again in three or more years. Nobody wants to deal with LSU, Alabama, Auburn, now Kiffin at Ole Miss, and Fisher at A&M. That's five losses every year to start with.
And can Pittman recruit to Arkansas? That is the question - this isn't UGA with Kirby.
