I don't know. He sucked at Ohio State's head coach. Why would we want him as DB coach?

SO now that we are hiring the last SC holdout from the Loo Holththsths era, will Unlucky Loo start picking LSU to win games? Man I hope not!

Good choice, IMO, given the strong secondary of USCe.

They will man up on the line of scrimmage, and play some bump and run. Very physical football. You dont have to worry about any of that soft zone crap.

Great get from all I read. Put him with all the talent we have, and I am liking our pass defense more already. Now, a DL coach that will bring the heat to take some of the load off the DBs, and Chavis rounding up some of the LB talent he is famous for and our defense will be a force again!

"I just saw what they got going there. It was sort of unbelievable," Cooper said. "They got something special going there."

Translation = $300k plus Loston as my "Hammer" was just too much to pass up!

FYI...South Ca had the #2 pass defense in the NCAA last year.

LINK

Looks like a great hire!

wow, I bet he is, maybe he should be re-evaluating his pathetic offense as SCAR. SOS just lost the best coach on his staff

here is my take on this guy

most people here know where i got to school

i just got done talking to people who know, and they said this guy was just a shitty shitty head football coach. while at louisville, he had a VERY STACKED team, left by schnellenberger, and he proceeded to go 7-4, 5-6, and then the dreaded 1-11 and then got the axe by tom jurich

while he was at eastern michigan, he never had a winning season, was never close to being successful

that being said, person i was talking to says that this guy could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in a white dress. he said he could walk in the room right now, sit down for five minutes, and you would be ready to ofer him a head coaching job in an instant. when i asked about how he could do in a recruiting/position coaching aspect, the guy told me that in louisiana at a school that can recruit itself, this guy could be a goldmine in the recruiting process, and he would also be a pretty good position coach on top of that

but as a head coach, he was awful. good thing he isnt out head coach. so i was glad to hear that for what we are essentially using him for, he should do a very good job. just wanted to weigh in on this topic

so he excels at recruiting and position coaching but flunked as a HC? Sounds like what we were going to get with O

What's strange to me is, despite him being credited w/ landing several of SCAR's better recruits, their fans keep saying he isn't fond of recruiting. Yet he seems to excel at it.

I'm more excited about his actual DB coaching ability over the next few years, his recruiting is just a +.

no doubt. it seems as though he has done a phenomenal job coaching that position

was he there when dunta robinson was there?

and ill continue to stand by this statement

black coaches that can recruit are very valuable in the south

exactly

i would have been unreal happy with cooper/joseph and orgeron

even without o, if we can get a quality coach, im not too concerned about the recruiting

just seeing what ole miss was this year with a good coach though sucks bc those are o's guys. oh well. i like the moves miles is making
