Woodward playing 6D chess again. It was widely reported that Vitello was headed to LSU by people “in the know” or people who had heard it from “inside the building”. Then he pulls Jay.

Woodward is obviously very good at slight of hand when it comes to hiring coaches. I seriously doubt it’s Jimbo. I don’t know who it is, but I have my guesses. My gut tells me target #1 is Riley. If he turns us down we’ll end up with Napier or Aranda. If Aranda is still in the hunt for the for a NY6 bowl, it’ll be Napier.

What?

Are you confusing academic endowment with athletic funds?

Vandy's ridiculous endowment in no way is used for athletics

no. i’m talking about cash in hand to be spent on baseball.

There is a reason Corbin is already the highest paid coach in the country.

Remind me, how many names were kicked around before Mulkey's hire?

The Mulkey hire was a bit of an unusual situation.

She has Louisiana ties (although being a Techster isn't an LSU thing, her son played at LSU so there's that). And I still truly wonder if someone (agent?) caught wind of the Oklahoma/Texas split, and told her to consider jobs outside the Big 12 if she wants to keep getting paid.

Along those veins, makes me wonder if Aranda might be in play. He's got the connection here too, and once again, you have to consider the future of the Big 12 vs the SEC. I think he's very respected in general, but not sure if he's shown enough in a couple years to warrant the move ... yet. I don't think you even look so much at wins and losses, you have to look at program structure. What's the word coming out of Waco on that?

A comparison

Johnson = Fickell
Vitello = Lane
Godwin = Napier
Bianco = Jimbo
Corbin = Saban
O Sullivan = Riley

Woodward isn’t involving anyone in the AD on this football search. It’s not discussed at all in the building. Take any rumor with a grain of salt.

Nobody is talking about Jimbo media wise except on this board.
This board is a huge media source for LSU fans.

6D? A mortal can't comprehend what 6D even is. Not even a demigod can.

So naturally, the one guy who clearly has legit sources got shunned

It was, but a lot of people dismissed him because of his record at Arizona the past 3 years.

2018 - 34–22
2019 - 32-24
2020 - 10-5

He was brought up and put on the back burner by fans well before Arizona's CWS run. Even once people caught on that it was likely a coach still coaching in the CWS, he was probably the 5th or 6th name mentioned.
