Ugh. I agree, Alleva should have fired Les at the end of the 2015 season rather than waiting. But with almost a year to look back on what other choice could he have made?
- Jimbo- wanted $7M and based on this season at FSU any one arguing he would be worth that?
- Herman- no one could out bid Texas for him and his "dream job".
So who is the obvious third choice?
Mullen? Maybe, but if his former AD at MSU doesn't bring him to FLA what does that say? He still has a dreadful record against ranked teams.
Gundy? Maybe, but would his Big XII defense work in the SEC? would he even come? Could LSU have gone to OK State two hires in a row for their HC?
Fedora? hardly.
PJ Fleck? What has he proven.
Alleva made the mistake in not firing the Hat at the end of the 2015 season, but based on the field in late 2016 Coach O might have been the most logical hire. Now not firing Les when he should have and structuring Coach O's contract the way he did- yet more reasons to fire Alleva...

We’ll never truly know because Alleva shut the prices down and rushed to hire a guy there was no competition for

Yea it was a sinking feeling. Hell they could have waited another week to announce O and though it would've still sucked, it would've at least looked like a more sophisticated process.

Sexton thought he had LSU by the balls and was demanding way too much. He thought it was an easy, done deal to frick LSU.

Instead we fricked up bad and took Ed who is 12-4 in his 2nd stint as an SEC HC. And even though Ed has learned from his mistakes from his Ole Miss days and continues to learn from his mistakes like every human being hopefully does, yeah Joe fricked up mightily by not getting someone else.

ETA: Also, did Joe have a long drawn out meticulous search for a new basketball coach? I don't think he did. He focused on WW and got him. I don't hear anyone complaining about that search.

Jimbo is having a bad year, no doubt, but this is not the norm. We'll see how he bounces back with a healthy QB, and new assistants with another recruiting class.
Herman has dropped some games but UT has already made strides. They barely looked like a football team last year (lost to Kansas!!) but now they've got a salty defense and have some young playmakers who are only going to get better going into year 2. Their arrow is pointing up.
Couldn't have gone wrong with either, but it is what it is. O is locked in so I want him to succeed, but I'll never accept how the hire went down.
