No. He has always been a great recruiter. Being here for two years has just strengthened his connections to high schools in the state. If he goes to a smaller program, it won't be a big deal, but I don't see any way our SEC West opponents aren't opening the checkbooks for a chance to take a few extra players out of LA every year. If he ends of at A&M, that is a problem for us in a way that Chavis going there hasn't been. There is a lot to sell there, with all the money there is in that program. He could do the same at UT, but at least there he wouldn't be hurting is head-to-head.
Again, if Orgeron decides to leave LSU because he's not hired as head coach to go to any other SEC school as a DL coach then he's a spiteful a-hole.

Downvote away. I don't give a shite. Reality isn't as black and white as some of you idiots want to paint it. He has done the best job recruiting the front 7 since at least Pelini, possibly Saban and Musschamp. You don't just the next man up to do that, even at LSU shooting fish in a barrel. I guess Brick just didn't have good aim, right?
Holy shite. Orgeron has been here 2 years and Key is his only recruit to make any kind of an impact immediately. If LSU was so depleted at DL then surely this superman recruiter would've brought in guys that could play right away.
Now, go take a look at the 2017 class. We need DL help bad right? We have a total of 4 so far and one of them is Moffitt's kid. 2 of them are 3 stars. And the crown jewel of the class, Shelvin, has been flirting with Bama all year. It's not like he has all of these top DL lined up ready to sign.

First I understood he wanted a fair shot at the job. If you, he, or anyone else thinks he isn't getting a fair shot, it's idiocy.
Now if he leaves for a head coaching job or DC, I completely understand. If he takes another recruiting/DL job to stick it in our eye he's being petty.
I listened to a podcast with T-Bob Hebert and he chuckled that Orgeron could go to Alabama and recruit against us. Very nice to get veiled threats from Os buddies.

i think what you're missing is that all of us want O back in the same capacity that he served before the interim stint. like you said, LSU has built in advantages here that no other school enjoys and O can capitalize on it.
the part of angst amongst the fanbase is that if O does decide to go elsewhere laterally, then he's the one missing out by putting his spiteful feelings towards LSU ahead of other things. that's something LSU can't do anything about.

Thats his call. Nothing we can do about it. All we can worry about now is hiring the best HC we can find. Id like him to stay but dont forget we were better before Orgeron came than when he was here.
You wouldn't be able to say that without that very sketchy loss to Florida......and that's why I think it was a sketchy loss, losing to Florida allowed you to make a statement like that without someone pointing out to how likely it would be that we are going to a major bowl soon (Sugar)....

Can you fill us in on details so we can appreciate it?
O leaked damaging details about how Miles operates, interferes, changes game plans on the day of games, and how the staff was so frustrated with him to his media allies. That is objective. Subjectively, I believe he did this to push him out of the door and try to leverage his local media connections into creating sentiment for him to get the head job. It was pretty shitty what he did to his boss even if you think, as I do, that Miles should have been shown the door last year.

Dumb comment of the day.

I don't disagree at all. I just think people need to recognize that it will hurt us in recruiting.
As for the rest, just go look at the guys he brought in last year. They may not be starting yet, but guys like Ed Alexander and Devin White are the foundation of the future on the front 7. If you can't see the quality of last year's class defensive, then I don't know what to tell you.

Then we will do what we've done for every other year but the two years he's been here, hire a good coach that can recruit. It will suck to lose his recruiting, but it will be more than made up for by having a head coach who knows what he's doing on big picture program building issues.

Again, I agree. But it's pure arrogance to say it will have no effect on our recruiting, especially this year and the next.

I'm all for giving him the talked-about 750K bonus for doing a good job as interim coach--IF he stays on staff.
Of course you are. It's not your money, after all.
Fans...got to love us.

And some of that wine is made by Walmart. We need Coach O.

The problem is, the last time around, we didn't. Brick Haley didn't recruit well, and Chavis couldn't be bothered to either help out or fire him. No program recruits itself, so the next hire is crucial.
If it is Fedora, do you trust him to bring in an ace recruiter on D to fill the void. He or Gundy making those hires is scary to me, because neither has ever had big time recruiting on that side of the ball.

I don't trust O to run a program. I trust Jimbo to hire a staff.

LSU currently has 8 defensive linemen on active NFL rosters that were recruited to LSU before Orgeron got here.
None of which came close to meeting their potential while here at LSU.

Why do we need to recognize that? So it will influence the decision makers? Don't get the most qualified candidate....you might have a guy that spitefully recruits against you.

He was looking to leave for a HC job before this season. I would like for him to stay, but that won't happen now with a new coach especially if you have players lobbying for him to be head coach.

I'm sure he can find a head job somewhere. Hell if Alleva strikes out he might have one here. He's just not the top candidate.
Posted on 11/23/16 at 10:04 am to MightyYat
Yes those same lineman that the gumps, the pigs, and Ole Miss ran trains on under Haley and Chavis.

I agree on both points. If Jimbo takes the job, I have all the confidence in the world that he makes the right hires and we don't miss a beat in recruiting. We may lose a few battles, but he'll get the job done.
Like I said, I'm more worried about guys further down the list making those calls if O decides to take his ball and go elsewhere.

Reading comprehension. I think he would be a disaster as a head coach. I would take several experienced guys before him. I am taking about Alleva and the new coach figuring out a way to keep him here as the D Line coach for another year or two while things stabilize under a new staff. This is more necessary if the new coach is someone other than Jimbo or Herman.
