I'm guessing he loathed every minute of being an assistant under Saban, and now has payback on his mind.

Karma is a huuuuuuge bitch

Jimbo bout to wreck Saban's PR/recruiting/payforplay machine

But yeah he is ready for a change of scenery after a rough personal stretch in Tallahassee and is excited about LSU's history of paying top value for assistants. Also, LA recruiting ground is fertile and LSU sits alone in state, ready for a new challenge and chance to win titles at multiple schools, and isn't a huge pussy that would run from the big red machine.

if the money is close to equal, that won't be the deciding factor.

strong? yes. probably a little easier at LSU though.

quote:

His path to ACC and national championships is SIGNIFICANTLY easier at Florida State. All things equal, who would CHOOSE to go head to head with the GOAT coach every year knowing that just that single loss would keep his seat warm.

significantly? oh, wait SIGNIFICANTLY?
i don't know about that anymore. this isn't the same SEC as a few years ago.
Clemson and Louisville are legit threats every year to FSU.
in the SEC it's Bama every year, and then a revolving door of who wants to be next in line any given year.

This is not true, and the main reason why Jimbo is coming to LSU. LSU is about to throw the bank at him and FSU will not match. I guarantee it.

Yes, but if successful, he will have an easier time recruiting at LSU than FSU. Recruiting is great at FSU b/c of Jimbo
Recruiting at LSU is great because its LSU

Maybe, Maybe not. ACC is top heavy so theres always those 2 or 3 big games. More prestige of being in SEC allows for a 2 loss team making the playoffs so from that aspect maybe id say its a wash

From all accounts he wanted to come to LSU last year but the CLM's fiasco screwed the pooch then. So, ask him that.

You just need to accept that this is something you just haven't kept up with. People just pick up on stuff. He has lots of friends over here through hunting and fishing, and you tend to hear things secondhand and thirdhand. I haven't mentioned this on here before, but I talked to a former FSU player recently who played under him a few years ago. Nature of conversation was something different, but I made a joke about Fisher coming, and he told me he thought he was gone for sure last year. This guy didn't have an inside track or whatever, but just an example of why the sentiment is there. I don't think that's an earth shattering nugget, which is why I've never shared it on a standalone level. But I've heard multiple stories like this before, and people just know that LSU is a "dream job" for Jimbo and he loves it here. People have provided other reasons in this thread, but this is something that is harder to explain to an outsider who hasn't kept up with the situation much.

I'm not saying it's a done deal, and I'm actually operating under the assumption that he's not coming here. Miles, quite amazingly, didn't go to Michigan and had at least one opportunity to do so. We all got let down and burnt last year. But it's certainly conceivable.

You gumps make me laugh. Coaches are competitors good ones are not scared to match wits with Saban and go up against your paid off referees year and year out. I'm sure Jimbo knows what kind of team he can recruit to LSU. He has to fight 3 major programs in Florida. And I bet he would relish the idea of whipping Sabans' arse.

I won't pretend to know. But he won't come out and say he's not interested.

The real question is why do Bama fans keep magically appearing on the LSU coaching changes threads?

The GOAT won't be around forever. He's 65 and Jimbo is 51. Plus, he wouldn't just concede to him. Jimbo isn't Miles and can match saban. Lsu has better facilities, support on staffing, and a fertile recruiting ground without fighting anyone else instate. Add the money and it makes sense.

These guys get to the top by being competitive. Think of how many coaches would hop on one leg to Baton Rouge for this opportunity.

Why do CEOs of companies jump from a high paying job at a smaller company to a more difficult and slightly higher paying job at a larger company?

Plus, maybe he doesn't like his boss?

Because he's not a pussy like the coach we just canned.

Everybody doesn't want the easy road in life. He's already won an NC at fsu and lsu

He was here during the golden years of lsu football, he's one of us now prepare your anus

1) LSU will pay top dollar for assistants.
2) He'd be the only relevant school in a high talent recruiting state.
3) He may have enjoyed his time here.
4) No matter what he does, he's not Bobby.
5) He might be looking for a fresh start, we've all done it where for whatever reason it got stale.

Maybe because he's a competitor and wants a new challenge to take on Saban and the SEC, while making likely more money. Ever thought of that?

That's a fair question. A few things I can think of - (a) more money for a longer period of time; (b) concern about one's "shelf life" in staying at a place (in this case FSU) too long; and (c) great personal experience as OC for 7 years. With the money he is making and his prior experience here, this is a "can't lose" proposition for him. Even if he flops, he's pocketing something in the $20M range. One could ask why Saban wanted to come to LSU in 2000 or BAMA in 2007. I think the case is stronger for Fisher to LSU in 2016.

Just not true. Miles' seat was not warm because of one loss, or even five of them. His seat was warm because of how his teams looked in the losses. At times it seemed the way Miles played football was based on the belief that first downs were for pussies.

I don't quite buy this. Think we'll all agree that the SEC is stronger at the top of the league than other leagues, but the bottom relative to the top may be weaker. Couple this with national perception of the SEC right now and the path to the playoff is better in the SEC than anywhere else - provided you can beat Bama in a given year.

If you don't believe this? FSU with two losses was clearly eliminated from the playoff race, as was just about every other team in the nation. LSU still controlled it's own destiny with two losses if it could have beaten Bama (and Florida and probably A&M... ). With a playoff you have to beat the SEC champ at some point. You either beat them in November or January. By playing in the SEC you can ensure that a loss (or in some seasons two) doesn't keep you out of the playoff.
