I heard from a friend of mine that since the OC position is vacant at LSU at the moment, the NCAA gives LSU more leeway with recruiting time available for Miles. Also that when the OC is hired he will be granted additional time for recruiting as well since he's new. Based on this my friend said we may not hire a new OC immediately so that we can take advantage of this.

Does anyone know the NCAA rules on this or can anyone elaborate on it? I didn't know there was a limited amount of time each coach could recruit. TIA.

I believe it has been said on this board that with a coaching vacancy you can take unlimited visits. This would potentially be useful to sway some recruits on the fence.

Some have even speculated that we know who the OC will be, but Miles is just taking advantage of the recruiting benefits.

Just a few things I've seen posted, fwiw.

I think Gonzales has already gotten the promotion and we are only looking for a QB coach, but like said, we won't know until after NSD

I that was the case, why not make the move public? We'd still be down a coach for the benefits.

LSU cannot take unlimited visits but they get more within NCAA rules. I think we'll find out about the OC before NSD but it wouldn't surprise me to see news until after.

I think he would want to make both the moves public at the same time

No reason to rush. If you agree that Crowton was probably given the option of "take the OC position at Maryland or we'll let you go" then he has a few people in mind already. If he does, hiring them immediatly would have made it seem as if we were getting rid of Crowton.

Miles is a class act, so even if he did push Crowton out, he will take his time to appear that he is "looking" since he would have brought Crowton back.

Not sure on the exact rules though i'm sure that Miles is taking advantage of what is permissable.

I like that Miles is taking his time as long as it isn't Stud.

Miles can recruit for LSU better than any would-be OC.

Its a dream come true.
Look for a few highly rated surprises from OOS.
