Tell that to Pete Caroll who hired Ken Norton as his LB coach for his first coaching job. Norton dominated on the recruiting trail pulling studs from across the country.

We wouldn't be hiring him to play or run a Union. Being a HOF player =/= being a good coach.

Each week, Whitehair gets stronger, no doubt due to the mentoring of former NFL great, and Future Hall of Famer, Kevin Mawae, who came to the Bears originally as a coaching intern this past offseason. The coaches liked Mawae's presence so much, they kept him on as an assistant coach after his internship, and he's had a tremendous impact on Cody Whitehair over the last few weeks.

So much of an impact, that Pro Football Focus has named Cody Whitehair the seventh-best rookie in all of the NFL through the first three games.

"The former Kansas State left tackle has had his issues moving to center, but those begin and end with penalties. Cody Whitehair has shown no noticeable drop-off playing between two Pro-Bowlers in Josh Sitton and Kyle Long; the rookie currently owns the fourth-highest run-blocking grade of any NFL center this season."

Sounds like a great damn coach to me. Taking someone who never played center and making him one of the best in his rookie season. I wonder if its because all the work he already has teaching technique at clinics and through lessons. All adds to the coaching experience

Grimes is doing good recruiting
He hasn't recruited Jack S.

This is the first year he has commitments from OL's that might be SEC Caliber. The roster is loaded down with OL's that have no business at LSU; certainly not SEC Championship caliber.

No "Differnce Makers."

We're not even close to Bama in OL personnel and coaching. Not even close.

I agree we should get Mawae in here in some capacity. In all those years in the NFL, (And Pro-Bowl) I'm sure he's got something to offer that will make the LSU OL better.............

Grimes has been here for one full recruiting cycle. Give the f'kn guy a chance. He pulled in 4 guys last year and none of them is proven to be anything less than deserving of their scholarship. He made a difference on the recruiting trail from Day 1 by helping to secure Tehuma, Brum, Clapp and Weathersby. He has continued with adding some other hogs in this cycle.

Get over yourself because you don't know shite about shite!

Can we please stop hiring under qualified coaches just because they are from here?

You're very wrong(at least the recruiting part). If you follow recruiting, Our last 2 OL hauls were exceptional.

It's easy to tell when your OL recruits are SEC caliber. When literally every SEC school is recruiting them.

For what it's worth, PFF has our OL ranked #1 in the nation(with a bunch of non-SEC caliber O-linemen according to you).

Now that our dinosaur offensive scheme is extinct, you'll see a huge OL improvement in the coming years

And I'm not a Grimes fan. I'd much rather have Mawae, but the guy has been a good recruiter. I believe he was handicapped by Miles(forced to play your best tackle prospect at center????)

Are you ignorant? Breaking down film, studying the posing teams defense and coaching his lineman in the huddle and making adjustments on the field IS COACHING.
Manning is a terrible coach using your logic dumbass. We know that he isn't.

I'm sure Kevin would be a good coach. The question with his has always been would multi-millionaire future Hall of Famer with young kids want to be driving in buttfrick Texas or Florida on a Monday night in January just to kiss the arse of some snot-nosed 17-year-old child?

100%. He interviewed for the position before Miles gave it to Grimes. Always stated on C&P how much he wanted it, but Miles said he didn't have the experience, which is why he joined the NFL intern program

But he wasn't. He wasn't game planning, or going to coaches meetings, or to even a majority of the practices

Outside of being on the sideline for game days, he had no real world experience of being a coach and all that entails with i

And I'm not saying he can't be a good coach, only that he hasn't proved it at all and there's no definitive way to tell he would be

I have and he would but wouldn't come as a shadow guy at least and not leave the job he's at now. He knows all there is to know about OL play and I think could do great as a recruiter but he also understands getting looked over for more experienced guys. He's not butt hurt at all about it and is continuing to pursue coaching opportunities to further his resume cause he loves it.
