Why hire Tom Cruise, when Jim Carey can read the same lines?

Why overpay for Morgan Freeman, when John Boyega is the same color?

Why pay Jon Favreau to direct, when you can get Chloe Zhao and check off some boxes too?

Who needs to go big with Spielberg, when Rian Johnson is young and creative?

Why pay John Williams to do anymore Star Wars music, when Danny Elfman is reasonably cheap with at least one good movie on his resume?

And why pay for Jimbo, when you can get EdO on the cheap? What could possibly go wrong? Oh, right we did that in 2015. Carry on

You missed the point.

So are the threads that say we should limit what we pay to proven winners, and risk an unproven nightmare

Takes money to make money. Ask Hollywood

You are aware that the choice is not just between Jimbo Fisher and Ed Orgeron, right? It is possible, perhaps likely, LSU could find a coach who could have great success here WITHOUT having to commit over $100 million dollars to a guy in in 4 seasons in the SEC has yet to win double-digit games

Jimbo is a good coach. But is $1.16 million dollars per win a great investment. Les Miles got fired for only winning 9 games per season. Fisher is still searching for that kind of consistency at A&M.

Hey, if LSU can get him at $7.5 million for 6 years I'm all for it. But paying $60k over sticker price for a BMW 5 series when you are looking for Ferrari level results doesn't seem like a particularly great investment. Or to use your analogy. Why pay Tom Cruise money for Jamie Foxx results?

Both are businesses. You spend money to make money

You could hire Tom Herman, and people just arent interested, and send him packing. Yet in the same state you can hire Jimbo, and he outperforms Herman and draws the attention of recruits, boosters, and media

No. I am reminding you that LSU went the cheap route over Jimbo, and it set the program back to the 1990's.

We cannot afford 2 cheap hires back-to-back. No worthy coach will ever apply here for decades. After Arnsparger left, the list of applicants were:

Mike Archer
Curley Hallman
Gerry Dinardo

Thats 18 years until Sabans 1st NC. You wanna hang around another 18 years, in case Tucker or Napier or Kiffin fail?

That seems a tad revisionist and hyperbolic.

I don't know if I would call it shitty, but it is absolutely one of the dumbest threads I have ever seen.
