May be a better candidate than Herman.
He's built a program from the ground up. He's played at the NFL, coached under some good coaches, been a recruiting coordinator. (this is important because if the foundation of a program)
Herman has obviously taken over a program that had talent already and success previously.
I know everybody loves Herman but PJ Fleck may be just as good

No but he should be getting more buzz than he is. I'm hoping they run the table so maybe Alleva will look his way bc he's he's going to be a very good coach for somebody sooner rather than later.

Coaching hires are like going to the casino. Sometimes you hit black jack and sometimes you CRAP out even though you play the best odds available.
I don't disagree PJ Fleck should be interviewed and personally I think building a program is just as important as recruiting, even though we are not in a re-building situation.
Not sold on all the "re-cycled" coaches that keep mentioned. I would say the admin needs to look at more than just what sounds good. Every candidate will have a negative surrounding them, they just need to avoid a catastrophic hire.

It's going to be fun to watch the bridge jumpers if Herman chooses to stay at Houston.

Bill Cubit started out 15-9 and Western Michigan. He took the Broncos to their 3rd, 4th, and 5th bowl games in program history. He even won 9 games in one season.
Last year, he filled in as the interim coach at Illinois before finishing with a mediocre 5-7 record.
The point is that not every coach at a mid-major program with a handful of good seasons deserves to land a top-tier coaching position.
Fleck is 2-7 against Power 5 opponents since arriving at Western Michigan. His two wins are both this season against very bad Northwestern and Illinois teams which are 3-6 combined. He is also 1-4 against ranked opponents.
Fleck's most impressive coaching feat is a measly division title in the anemic MAC.
He is only 35, has spent only two years at a Power 5 program (receivers coach at Rutgers 2010-11), and his one season coaching in the NFL is hardly an indicator of his remarkable experience.

In that case I guess you would've never given the opportunity for Jim Harbaugh, Urban Meyer or Jim Tressel to coach.
Mike Tomlin was 34 when he took over the Steelers.
Fleck coached under tressel, Nolan, and Greg Schiano. not exactly a B list crue.
Lastly, taking a team from worst to first in it's division isn't a small accomplishment.

29-6 at San Diego, a program that had never won a conference title until Harbaugh's arrival...and he won two. He was hired at Stanford, a program that had not won 10 games in an individual season since 1992.
In four years, he led them 12 wins, a top-5 finish, and a BCS bowl appearance.
He proved himself worthy of his subsequent jobs with the 49ers and Michigan.

One of these is not like the others. Also, are you referring to Mike Nolan? Because Fleck's only season in the NFL was as a receivers coach for Tampa Bay...where Nolan has never coached.

They weren't worst in the conference prior to his arrival. He lost three more games than his predecessor did in 2012.

I'm all aboard the PJ Fleck train. Think he'd be a great hire for LSU. Guy can recruit and built western Michigan from nothing giving them their first top 25 ranking in school history this week. He's beating big 10 teams with lesser talent.

Time to start accepting that LSU won't get Herman. Time to start looking for a coach that's also up and coming. Cat's already out of the bag on Herman but not this guy.
