Stop giving raises when they haven't been earned.
It's not like we won a sec title or even the west.
Raise was not earned by Chavis!

When a high profile program goes after your most valuable assistant, they you play to keep him. Raise earned and will be earned more when his systems becomes embedded with our D.

Yea...as if 500k wasn't enough for a DC. The buyout of Crowton is looking less likely if greedy arse assistants keep doing this...
To think, if they can't buyout Crowton, they sure as hell aren't going to buy Miles out even if he went with a 10 loss season.

Taking a defense up 50 some odd spots despite losing their best d-lineman is shitty, I agree.

I agree, but what can you do? You can't just let a good DC go like that. Granted the money he's given is for a great DC, but you can't just let someone take your DC and have to get a 4th in three years like that. And who's to say we could get someone as good?

Ummm... he's a safe hire. He'll give you a decent defense. That's it. He'll have one to 2 great games a year. That's it.
He played right into UF's hands, and people called our defense great for holding them to 13 points. No mention that they controlled the clock and ran it at will.
Chavis gives you a slow death, but you still die against teams with any semblance of an offense with the exception of 1 to 2 games per year.

I think our defense will be better next year based on if Brick can get them to do something on the d-line...
I find it equally amazing that Chavis was able to maintain a top 15 scoring defense when one of our starting DEs doesn't even have a sack on the year...
So really, third down and Chavis may be true but when your QB has 10 seconds to sit in the pocket...not much any secondary can do. And its not like our LBs can blitz for shite either. Maybe that has more to do with blitz schemes though.
While I think hes a solid DC, not amazing, I honestly don't want to find out who Miles would hire. So, we'll just leave it at that.

Absolutely.
Look at what UF and UGA are having to do. They are both still looking. Hell, one of them is trying to hire from us.
Why did Miles hire Chavis? He was impressed with what his d's did against us.
Why did Richt try? He was impressed with what his d's did against them.
He's EXTREMELY respected in the coaching community (which is one thing people bash Miles about all the time).
Obviously he has his weaknesses, but I still want to see how much better the D is with proper personnel up front that can actually generate some semblance of a pass rush..

So everyone else just regressed, we didn't improve at all?

thats the only stat LSU's defense was good in, and alot of that has to do with even worse qb play in the SEC in 2009 than 2008 (and it was pretty sh*tty in 08)

One, its easy to keep the other team from scoring when you let them get 3rd down after 3rd down and 8+ minute drives. Look at UF.
Chavis is good, but will never lead a championship defense at LSU. He's not leading defenses like he did at UT in 1997-2001 anymore.
He hurts the offense with his scheme, and given they sucked as it is, they needed every chance they could.
Our ypg was actually WORSE this year. PPG is a horrible stat seeing as we gave up 7 pick 6's another pick that got Bama and Ole Miss inside our 20 that lead to TDs.
Just taking out the opponents Pick 6 TDs (none this year), we only allowed 20.3 ppg last year. So in reality, he improved our defense by 4 points and JJ improved them by just as much
Rushing defense, sacks, TFL, total defense, TOP worse.
Chavis is what he is. He won't win more than 1 game for you, but he'll lose you at least two. Better organized worse scheme.

And the fact we didn't give up about 50 points (or 20% of our points) against just on Pick 6's.
Defense is definitely more organized, LB play is better, and so is DB play. DL play is 10x worse almost entirely on scheme and the defense is marginally better.

Ever since Emmert left, I've really been disappointed in the lack of accountability for the contracts given to these football coaches. Pitiful management.
If UGA wants to pay for an average defense with decent offense, or a super great defense with no offense (in large part because of said defense), let them foot the bill for Chavis' fat arse.

Either way, lets see what Chavis can do with a better d-line and a offense that can actually gain consistent leads.
Although, I guess he did kinda blow that in the second half of the Ar-Kansas game...
